Bleachers come in all sizes big and small, often making trade-offs between capacity and portability. Angle frame bleacher structuresprovide the best of both worlds, offering an economic way to host small and medium crowds.
These bleachers typically have anywhere from three to 15 or more rows, and are commonly used at high school football venues, for instance. Their name derives from the angled metal bars that hold the seating in place, and this structure allows them to act as a single unit that can be placed in any number of locations. However, their materials and structure also allow them to withstand great pressure and to be used for years with minimal maintenance.
Depending on their size, these units can be highly portable, and are often built with mechanisms for being towed, providing the ability to move individual units between fields or to be installed at your location with minimal set-up. However, many systems can be anchored securely in place, making them an ideal fixture for Little League baseball fields, weekend soccer fields and for any group seeking affordable, easy seating.
These bleachers come in non-elevated and elevated forms. The non-elevated versions place the first row of spectators at ground level, and are great for youth sports fields since they are easy to set up and move. Elevated bleachers, by contrast, are raised several feet up, giving spectators at large venues a line of sight onto the sports field that is not hindered by sideline activity.
At their most complex, these bleachers include front walk ways, multiple stair ways and room for amenities like press boxes or locker rooms. Also important to consider are safety features such as guardrails, handrails and ADA compliant ramps. These structures can be modified to meet local codes. Many smaller units, however, do not require rails or other safety additions.
The metal supports in these bleachers are typically made of aluminum, which is lightweight and portable, or galvanized steel, known for its strength and durability. These metals can be painted to reflect school colors, and require minimal maintenance. They’ll also hold up against years of heavy use, rain and they can be easy to clean up, as well.
In cases where these structures may not provide ample capacity, many organizations turn to what are called I-beam bleachers. These get their name from the large metal columns that provide support. Also, some frame bleachers cannot be placed on uneven or angled terrain, so custom-built I-beam bleachers should be considered, instead. Smaller bleachers include tip-in-roll bleachers, which are the most portable of bleachers, and other models that can easily be carried by one or two people.
