Corner Founts are very popular and elegant wash fountains and are specifically designed to save space with their corner locations.  The user groups for this design include institutional, industrial, commercial, and recreational customers. The applications include schools, highway rest areas, recreation areas, convention centers, athletic facilities, and manufacturing and warehousing facilities.  They are appropriate for any light to moderate hand washing application. These wash fountains can accommodate up to two users at a time and use less water with their water saving features.  They save space because only one sink can service two users.

As the importance of hand washing becomes more ingrained in the mind of the public, wash fountains such as the corner founts will be more numerous and available over time. Hand washing studies have shown that a majority of Americans understand that washing their hands is the best method of avoiding cold and flu viruses. However, a recent study demonstrated that only 75% of women and 51% of men washed their hands with soap and water after using a public restroom. There were numerous excuses for not washing such as non-functioning sinks, an unclean wash area, a crowed sink area, not feeling the need to wash, and using a hand sanitizer instead.  A number of these excuses can be eliminated by building managers maintaining their bathroom facilities.   

Corner Founts have a number of design features that make them attractive to building managers and owners. The sprayhead module is preassembled and has two independent streamformers, one for each user.  Each of the streamformers is controlled by a separate infrared sensor actuated solenoid valve. Therefore, the water flow will only begin when the infrared sensor detects hand movement. The solenoid valve will shut off the water flow two to three seconds after the removal of the hands.  In addition, the system is programmed to automatically shut off water flow between 30 - 45 seconds, which prevents water waste by vandals.

The Corner Founts will operate between a water pressure of 20 – 80 pounds per square inch. The founts have flow regulators that maintain a constant flow rate at all times when the water pressure is in the range mentioned above. The flow rate is set at a constant one half gallon per minute, which saves a considerable amount of water when compared to conventional faucets.

The bowl and pedestal panels of the Corner Founts are most frequently constructed of Terrazo or Terron. Both materials have their unique advantages for various applications. Regardless of the bowl and pedestal material, the entire unit is very vandal resistance.  Because the molded sprayhead is an integral element of the bowl module, it is structurally sound and able to house some of the most important electronic and mechanical parts of the wash fountain.  The escutcheons, infrared sensors, valves, and water connections are safely housed within the sprayhead. This design denies the vandal various opportunities to damage the unit. The pedestal will have a heavy gauge front access panel that can only be opened with a special key.
