Handwash fountains allow many users to wash their hands at once.  They are far more efficient and cost-beneficial than traditional lavatories, and they come in a variety of configurations. 

The larger units are circular in design.  They are built to service 5-8 users at a time.  Semi-circular units are slightly smaller and service 3-4 users at a time.  Both circular and semicircular units use less space and water than conventional lavatories.

They use less water, and they rely upon a single heat source to heat all the water to serve multiple users.  In the classic circular design, a single sprayhead services multiple users at once.  This represents an 80% water savings when compared to the consumption of 5-8 individual lavatories. 

In a semi-circular fountain, a sectional sprayhead services each individual.  This saves 2 gallons of water per fountain compared to individual lavatory fountains. 

With either design, the water bill will be dramatically increased.  Water conservation is further ensured by automatic cutoff valves.
