Heritage Bike Racks

Bikes have date back to 1817 when they were first called walking machines. Instead of pedals, bikes would have 2 wheels that were connected to short wooden beams with an attached seat. You had to walk to make the bikes’ large wheels move. Bike racks are a more recent invention. They date back to the 1970’s and were only attached to large metropolitan area city buses. It wasn’t until the late 1970’s that bike racks were implemented into cities and used for everyday bike uses rather than bus users. Today, most bike racks typically look beat up and aged. Nicer buildings and areas with aged bike racks look unprofessional and unattractive. But, a heritage bike rack offers an “old world” appeal.  It is also universal to both new and older buildings. It is easy to clean with a simple hose and can be easily installed. Bike racks are an asset to every bike rider.

Today, we use a variety of bikes and racks. Most everyday users of the bicycle live in areas such as New York City, Chicago, or Seattle. But in other urban or largely tight nit cities bicycles are a necessity as well. Most people find that getting around town is easier using your bike. Taxis. bus fares, and subway/train costs can add up. Furthermore, driving a personal vehicle is close to impossible. So, bicycle riders not only save money but are also saving the environment. Stating the obvious, bicycle racks are a necessity wherever bikes are used.

Recently traveling to Chicago, I realized that bicycles were used by the majority of people living in the downtown area. Most of downtown was polluted with taxi’s, buses, and the rarest- people who would drive their own vehicle. Sadly, you would think that taking a taxi, bus, or even the subway/train would get you from point A to point B the quickest; but in fact, those that would ride their bicycle would get there much quicker! Unfortunately, there were a limited amount of bike racks offered. Many took their bikes into stores where they were asked to leave their bike unattended outside. People would also lock their bikes to trees, park benches, or other areas that aren’t intended for bike users. If there was a bike rack offered it was either too small and exhausted with bikes or placed in areas that were hard to find. Bicyclists in downtown Chicago would take their bikes to the local market to get groceries, drive to a friends apartment, and just about anywhere else you could imagine.

Those that live in rural areas will find that bike racks that offer an “old world” appeal are also needed. In the 1930’s up to today, farmers use their bikes for a variety of reasons. In the past, bikes were used to travel to farmers markets, neighbors houses, or just across their acreage to get their mail.

Whether you live in an urban or rural area, bike racks that have an “old world” appeal can be used. Bike racks no longer have to look beat up, aged, or cheap. Since this bike rack offers numerous bicyclists to park their bike, the area itself will look much nicer then those without.
