How to Economize Industrial Washroom Design

The Advocate Lavatory System - 2 StationWith a few simple decisions, you can economize your industrial washroom design for lower upfront costs and long-term return on investment through savings.  Thinking consciously about what you really need—and don’t—need, will keep your purchasing well within budget.  Taking advantage of design assistance, and assessing genuine need prior to purchasing ADA equipment and accessories, could save you hundreds of dollars on repair, replacement, and upgrade costs.

1.       Choose the lowest maintenance option for your toilet stall partitions.  In most industrial environments, solid plastic is the most durable, the easiest to clean, and the cheapest to repair.  The higher price point compared to plastic laminate and phenolic should not deter you from spending a little extra on something you really won’t have to spend anything significant on for the next decade.

Partitions are the one thing you don’t want to take shortcuts on when looking to economize industrial washroom design.  If you have to trim your budget, trim it elsewhere.  Partitions are the costliest thing to replace when it comes to materials, customization, and installation if you don’t get them right the first time.

Solid plastic partitions also make it easier to integrate showers into yourPartitions restroom floor plan.  Experience has shown us that solid plastic panels and doors make the best shower partitions for commercial and industrial bathrooms.  If your employees have to wash off contaminants after a hard day’s work, you can potentially save thousands on the cost of separate shower rooms if you simply integrate plastic shower stalls into your industrial washroom design.

2.       This brings us to the problematics often associated with saving costs and space on ADA complaint stalls and fixtures.  On the one hand, we want to economize these areas as much as anything else.  Strict regulations, however, leave us little room for trimming the line items.   Loss occurs when facility managers opt for ADA compliant washfountains mounted in the central part of the room.  While fully accessible, the reduced space within the bowl forces employees to wash hands and arms for longer periods of time, resulting in water waste.

A better configuration uses the standard stainless steel wash fountain and meets ADA compliance on the innovative end of industrial washroom design.  Either a smaller, corner washfountain can be installed for handicapped persons, or an ADA lavatory can be wall mounted in the vanity area.  In restrooms filled with ADA and standard partitions, shower stalls, and lockers, finding this one extra bit of space may be challenging, but it can still be done.  Fax or email your blueprints for free design assistance.

3.     Stainless Steel Paper Towel Dispenser and Waste Receptacle Combo  Finally, remember that the ultimate solution to insufficient space may be found in the surprisingly little things that go into building a commercial restroom.  By selecting stainless steel fixtures with a more compact design, or by using carefully chosen combination accessory units, you can typically free up just enough wall or corner space that can be dedicated to the creation of a fully compliant, accessible space.  The key is to focus on the industrial washroom design itself, then let the plan guide the procurement process in fixture and accessory selection.
