Wood benches look good anywhere you put them.  This is because wood is a natural substance that we all share a common connection to.  For the majority of human history, most seats were made from wood.  Even in modern times, with the abundance of plastic and metal, wood is still a very highly prized building material used in furniture construction.

One of the most appropriate contemporary uses of the wooden bench has little to do at all with contemporary times.  There is a new trend in America to restore the simple, rustic look of what we colloquially call “The Old Part of Town.”  This historical, central district represents the original town square that was eventually abandoned as major corporations took over the economy. 

Now, with resistance mounting to corporate domination, many local businesses are fighting back with a conscious effort to restore historical areas to their original conditions and to reopen local stores, barber shops, ice cream parlors, and gift shops operated exclusively by local merchants.

Wood benches lend a great sense of authenticity to these areas because they look very much like benches used in the 19^th and early 20^th centuries.

Wood benches are also ideal for any park.  This goes without saying.  In areas where lakes, forests, and mountains are celebrated, natural furnishings are aesthetically appropriate.  Investing in superior grade wood that can withstand the elements will maintain a clean, inviting image to the park that lasts season after season.

 In paid campgrounds, state parks, and natural forests, this is more than just an amenity.  An attractive presentation brings in more visitors, which in turn bring money with them.

Superior quality wood benches can be great additions to theme parks with a nature oriented design.  While most theme parks rely primarily on metal benches and picnic tables, there are some park designs that are so closely related to nature that a bench made of wood is a much better choice.  Some examples of this would be theme parks that are centered on zoology. 

Particularly if wildlife is part of the attraction, a very pristine environment must be maintained in order to make the place look believable.  Wooden outdoor furniture, when characterized by superior construction and weather resistant treatment methods, makes a far more appropriate compliment. 

Wood benches are a great investment for highway departments looking to create simple, scenic observation areas.  Whenever any of us take a long, cross-country trip, we often stop at these areas to take pictures of the scenic overlooks they offer.  We naturally take for granted the seating that the highway department provides us.  Close examination of these areas, however, reveals a tragically high level of vandalism.  While it was once popular for these overlooks to have concrete benches that blended well with surrounding stone formations, concrete has proven to be easily shattered by mischief. 

Wood benches are not impervious to vandalism, but they do not fragment into rubble when people tamper with them the way concrete does.  They are far less expensive to replace, and they represent a more practical and aesthetically appropriate investment for government purchasing agents to make.
