How To Choose Cluster Mailboxes

How-To-Choose-Cluster-MailboxesWhen choosing Cluster Mailboxes, you need to  know your market to be able to determine how many Cluster Mailboxes you’ll need to reasonably accommodate them. Another thing to think about is not just how many customers normally pass the business location, but how many you can attract. If the location is convenient, you can attract more people who need the services of a CMRA.

Another idea is offering a few large boxes that customers can use as-needed. This is similar to a locker setup. If a customer with a small mailbox receives a large parcel, you can leave a key in their small box that opens a larger one, like our Wall Mounted Parcel Locker, and they key remains in the large box until you remove it. Keys that can’t be reproduced are an important safety feature.

Call XPB Lockers today at 1-877-483-9270 for a free quote, and to learn more about the cluster mailboxes that we have in stock. It’s our goal to make your job easier, so we’re here to help in every way that we can.

The U.S.P.S. regularly updates their mail receptacle requirements, but the local postmaster may also have special ones for certain locations.

Because most community mailboxes are mounted or installed outdoors, resistance to the elements and harsh weather extremes is a must. You can choose from sandstone, bronze, black, green, white, or gray. Optional pedestals have the same fabrication and finish choices.

Secure Locking Mechanisms
Locks might keep honest people honest, but they also help keep dishonest people from tampering with the mail. Community mailboxes need a means for postal carriers to access the interior and deposit or collect mail without compromising the security.

Our 8-Door Cluster Mail Box Unit with Parcel Locker has a heavy-duty 5-pin cylinder cam lock to keep the mail safe and sound. The front access features master locking panels, which means mail carriers can open all of them, but each user only has access to his or her own box.Request A Quote

Retail strip centers are normally serviced with post-mounted mailbox designs. Also known as CBUs, these mail boxes sit on top of a pedestal   These USPS outdoor mail centers offer each tenant an individual mail unit that can be accessed with a key.  Both standard and decorative CBUs are available and include outgoing mail slots and built-in parcel lockers.  Retail centers can also purchase additional outdoor parcel lockers for high volume package delivery.

CBU units are also popular in small commercial buildings with only 2-4 tenants, law offices, tax offices, and very small office parks with building tenants facing toward a central courtyard area.

Commercial Mail Receiving Centers offer mail box rentals to DBAs, individuals, and corporations who want to receive their mail at different location other than their own physical address. The demands for commercial mail receiving centers when people began to become dissatisfied with standard P.O. boxes rented from local post offices.  CMRCs can invest in either aluminum or brass mailbox designs that will service a large number of clients in even a small building with limited wall space. There are also specialty products available for package deliveries.

Schools and university campuses need mail centers for interdepartmental mail. These mail delivery units do not have to be USPS certified if they are used only by internal staff.  Various types of mail drops and parcel lockers can be ordered that will help any campus streamline their interdepartmental correspondence and package delivery.  Letter boxes are an absolute must for public schools because they allow teachers to quickly share hard copy documents with one another and school administrators.

Number mailbox designs exist for office buildings of varying sizes and functions. USPS regulations require mail centers to be on the first floor.  Office buildings with multiple tenants on each floor will want to choose from wall-mounted horizontal units or free-standing mail centers.  Very small building with only a handful of tenants can invest in larger vertical mail boxes.  Buildings where large companies occupy multiple floors will typically build inter-office mail centers on each floor using either vertical units or using specialty equipment in addition to the first floor mail center.  Offices can also accommodate package deliveries by investing in USPS approved parcel drops.

Mailboxes for High Rises and Mid Rises

November 15th, 2012 by
Share

Is there any one type of mailbox that is ideal for a midrise or a high rise building?

No.  What determines the best mail center for you will be the amount of wall space you have available to build a mail center on the first floor of your building.  This wall space has to accommodate all the apartments in your building with both individual mail units and parcel units that are specified per USPS Code.

How many parcel units do we need?

Generally speaking, USPS requires 10 units to every individual mail box.  Additional codes may apply to your building in some situations.  Do not worry too much about trying to figure out the codes.  If you will provide us with the number of apartments in your building, measurements of your wall, and some general information about your location, we can help you build a mail center with the right number of individual units, data boxes, or parcel boxes.

What mailboxes you recommend for remodels?

You want to invest in either surface mounted units or rotary mail centers with rotating horizontal mail boxes contained in a cabinet.  The choice between the two normally depends on the number of individual apartments in your building.  If you have only a relative few units with very large, luxury floor plans, you may want to go with front loading, surface mounted vertical mail boxes.  If you have more tenants, then a rotary mail center may be better for you.  The advantage to a rotary center is you can place it anywhere in your lobby regardless of your existing wall space.  The units rotate as a group 180 degrees so that they can be loaded from the back by the mail carrier.

Are vertical mailboxes the best option for smaller buildings?

Best is a relative term.  Vertical mail boxes do provide more storage space and are easier for mail carriers to access.  Larger mail can fit into the slots without being bent, so tenants tend to appreciate this.  Not all buildings with vertical mail units are small, however.  Some have plenty of wall space in which to build a larger than usual mail center.  Others are, like the example above, buildings with very large luxury apartments that have fewer actual tenants to service.
