Mailboxes and Posts for Gated Community Development

November 8th, 2012 by
Share

What type of mailboxes and posts do you recommend for planned communities?

We recommend Central Box Units, also known as CBU’s.  While this differs from the image that many people have of the mail box on a post in front of a house, we have found that a centrally located, secure, and well-lit sheltered outdoor mail center can work much better for residents of many gated housing developments.  This is not always the case, but there are specific instances where it proves to be the most practical way of getting people their mail on time.

Why would people in such a community not want mail delivered to their homes?

People want mail delivered on time just as much as they want it delivered to a convenient location.  It really depends on where the community is located as to whether individual home delivery or central mail delivery is more expedient.  In rural areas where a single post office can service a planned community more or less exclusively, individual home delivery can be done like it is in any American city.  However, if the gated community is near a major city like Houston, and the nearest post office is servicing multiple zip codes and neighborhoods, centrally located mailboxes and posts may be better for the residents.  Mail carriers who already have a very full schedule would have to drive through several miles of winding roadway to deliver mail.  This could take several hours and result in late delivery for persons living along the outbound stretch of road leading out of the community.

Is a central outdoor mail center safe?

Yes.  If you build the center near the guard shack where it can be watched, it is perfectly safe provided it is located within the gate.  You can also build it under a shelter of some type to keep the rain off the mail and the residents.  Most planned communities go ahead and install security cameras in these sheltered areas to make certain that the facility is safe for nighttime use.  Mailboxes and posts mount directly to concrete, so these centers can be built on existing sidewalks near a community center, or they can be constructed on mail islands in a special area just inside the community entrance.

Large Multi Compartment Mailboxes

June 15th, 2012 by
Share

What are large multi compartment mailboxes?

They are cluster mailboxes supported by a pedestal, which is why they are often called “cluster mailboxes” or “pedestal mailboxes.”

What type of metal are they made from?

They are made from heavy duty aluminum.

What kinds of establishments can benefit from cluster mailboxes?

Retail strip centers are a big customer group. They are in community in America now, from the largest cities to the smallest of towns.  Even though some of the largest retail corporations in the world often lease space in these centers, the actual size of the strip center is typically too small to devote any sizeable amount of wall space to mail boxes.  Pedestal mailboxes are therefore the best option for servicing multiple tenants in a limited amount of space.

We also sell a lot of large multi compartment mailboxes to rural, residential, gated communities.  These communities are like self-contained cities in their own right, but with a remarkably rural, neighborhood appeal.    Houses are often built along miles of winding road which could easily take 3 or 4 hours of a mail carrier’s time if he or she dropped mail off at each house.    With cluster mail boxes installed near the gate of the community, the carrier has only one stop to make, and residents need only to stop off on their way home in the evenings to retrieve their mail.

Other users of cluster mail box unit are found in small office complexes. They use them for the same reason that retail strip centers use them—to provide a central, space saving mail area that services multiple tenants in small office suites.

How many units are present in large multi compartment mailboxes?

That depends on the unit you buy.  Different models contain 8, 12, 13, and 16 box units.  There are 2 box parcel box units too.

How easy is it to access these mail boxes?

They are very easy.  There is an outgoing mail slot that allows you to slide the mail through a slot.  Personal mailboxes and parcel boxes are accessed by mailbox keys.

Where can you install large multi compartment mailboxes?

Organizations typically install pedestal mailboxes near the wall along a sidewalk in a locating that is conveniently accessible to commercial tenants.  Residential communities will typically install them just inside the gate in a concrete rotunda or along the periphery of a circular driveway area where people can park their cars and quickly go to their particular mail box unit.

USPS Approved CBU Mailboxes

April 2nd, 2011 by
Share

USPS approved CBU mailboxes make it easy for people living in unique, very private environments to easily access their mail. They also make it easy for mail carriers to deliver mail quickly at a single point. On a commercial level, they provide a vital service to businesses in small office parks and to stores and restaurants in retail centers.

USPS approved CBU mailboxes mount on pedestals that cluster the units together in an attractive configuration. These pedestal mounts can contain any number of mailboxes, along with a parcel box and an outgoing mail slot. Pedestal mount configurations are ideal for housing developments where people live out in the country. The mail carrier can deliver mail all at once to an outdoor mail box configuration, and everyone can pick up their mail from the central location when convenient.

This also works for apartment complexes where there is no central hallway, and where mounting mailboxes to a brick wall cannot be affordably and practically done. People in smaller apartment complexes would need to go outside to get their mail anyway if there are no mail slots on the door. Pedestal mounted cluster CBU mailboxes can be placed on the sidewalk in a covered area that provides shelter from the rain if the weather is bad.

In the world of small office parks, USPS approved CBU mailboxes are also the best option for mail pickup and delivery. This is because small office parks typically face similar space limitations that condominium, apartment complexes, and townhome complexes face.

While some office parks may want to have mail delivered to their door, this consumes mail carrier time. Someone is also going to be last in line and possibly miss business. It is much better for everyone for all parties to know when their mail is arriving and when they can pick it up.

The same principle holds true for urban strip centers that lease space to small coffee shops, cafes, and retail stores. With such a variety of businesses sharing a very small complex, the only real viable mail delivery option is the USPS approved CBU mailboxes. A pedestal mount will take up far less space than a wall mounted configuration which building restrictions may not permit in any respect.

Both businesses and retailers can order USPS approved CBU mailboxes in one of two different door sizes (A or B) depending on the volume of mail they receive on a daily basis. Six color choices that range between black and white let facility managers compliment any architecture or landscape design.

Baskets and Bins Organizers

March 29th, 2011 by
Share

Baskets and bins organizers are simple storage compartments that bring great benefit to any environment where there is a need to store and to organize smaller items.

For example, these basket lockers are used in some art supply and hobby stores that need to keep the most popular paints, glues, and brushes behind the counter so customers can have quick access to their most routinely purchased supplies.

This is also done in garages, where it is actually a necessity for business even more than it is a courtesy. This is because garages have only a very small store front to begin with and almost no wall space for shelving. Baskets and bins organizers are really the only way to store basic parts and supplies and to keep them organized for inventory tracking purposes.

Auto parts stores with built-in should consider using basket locker organizers for both their behind the counter storage area and their warehouse area. They can organize the most sought after items behind the counter for the sake of customer convenience.

The warehouse area behind the glass can also be organized. Because each basket is 13 inches deep and measures 40 inches by 31 inches, it has plenty of space to store larger engine parts and auto supplies.

Gyms can also use locker baskets and bins organizers to give their customers convenient, personal storage areas. Baskets can be locked with personal combination locks or padlocks.

In warehouses, where you have to store many products on shelves and large racks, and where pallet racking takes up tremendous amounts of the vertical cube, you can easily get confused as to where all the small stuff got put. Well, with locker baskets and bins storage units you can avoid this confusion by organizing all the smaller items in corner.

Finally, basket and bins organizer lockers are great for kids in elementary school. They make kids feel special by having their own personal place to put various items of significance. They also teach children that things like cell phones and games have to be put up and only taken out at certain times.

Mail Slots

January 27th, 2011 by
Share

Mail slots are horizontal or vertical slots installed in doors or walls. You see them mostly in big cities, where buildings are crowded together and there is no room for curbside mailboxes. Homes use them, businesses use them, and churches use them. Many smaller duplex and fourplex apartments also install them in unit doors to give residents personal mail service.

The use of horizontal and vertical slots is just as widespread today as it has been in the past. Their Perhaps their sheer practicality accounts for this fact.

In fact, they have moved far beyond the East Coast, where they were once predominant, and have now become increasingly common in new constructions throughout the nation. This is because they save on space, which is often restricted even in new subdivisions.

You can choose from three types of mail slots– Deluxe, Standard, or Vertical.

Standard mail slots are made out of brass. They have a spring-loaded flap so they can be installed in the front of a solid door. They can also be put into the wall itself. There is a special on the rear of the slot so it will be flush with the wall.

If you are an architect ordering slots, please get the larger magazine size if possible. It makes it much easier on the mail carrier. Also, mail gets folded less when the slot is larger. Letter size slots should only be used if it is unfeasible to use a larger opening.

Deluxe mail slots are fine, two-piece handcrafted units made out of brass. They are only available in the large magazine size. The word MAIL is cast on the flap to make them stylish and easy for mail carriers to find.

They are protected and secured by heavy-duty tamper proof brass bolts secure the front and back frames to each other from the rear. You can put the deluxe slots in doors or walls as deep as one and seven eighths inches thick. Deluxe slots are U.S.P.S. approved for mail delivery.

Vertical mail slots can be installed on one side of the door, in a wall, or in the frame of the door itself. Your decision to use a vertical slot may well be based on cosmetics alone. That is ok, because they work just as well as magazine sized standards and deluxe slots.

They are much less noticeable, however, and are large enough to accommodate magazines and large envelopes. Because of their attraction factor, they are mainly used in residences, although many churches may like them as well.

A Postal Box Offers Many Clear Advantages over a PO Box

December 29th, 2010 by
Share

A postal box is a personal mailbox located in a privately managed mail center. While it is similar to the traditional USPS P.O. Boxes available at any Post Office, it offers the small business owner several distinctive advantages over a P.O. Box.

Perhaps the greatest advantage a small business owner receives a postal box is a physical street address that looks much more professional than a P.O. Box number. This is a very important fact to take into consideration if you are leasing such a box for business purposes.

While we may not like to admit it, people tend to judge businesses more favorably when they are associated with a physical address as opposed to a post office box number. They also will judge a business that is obviously being run from a residence.

Operating a business out of a commercial mail center will help a business owner build more credibility with his or her client base. The enhanced, professional image the business gains from this is far superior to that of how it will be perceived if people know it is being run from a spare room in a house.

With a better image, the business can more easily expand into commercial lease space when time and money become available.

A postal box will give a business owner twenty four hour access to your mail every day of the week. Commercial mail centers are typically divided into two sections. The back section is the service counter, which is closed after normal business hours and partitioned off by a pull down screen that locks in place.

The front of the center can be opened by a door key issued by the establishment, and the mailbox can be accessed by the mailbox key assigned to the user.

With such a setup, a commercial mail center can maintain its own security and still give the user twenty four seven access to your mail any time you need to pick it up. Mail slots are also available at these centers if the user needs to drop off outgoing mail at the same time.

Users can count on mail remaining secure in a postal box no matter regardless of how often they go to pick up mail. If a mailbox fills up to the point of overflowing, the commercial mail center will manage the overflow in an organized, confidential manner and hold it until you pick it up.

In all fairness, Post Offices will attempt to do the same thing, but because they are so busy with so many other tasks, the chances of not losing something important are much better if the business owner works with a smaller, private organization.

When there is a package too large for the postal box, a commercial mail center can hold the package behind the counter for pickup. Again, there is a much better chance of a package arriving intact a business is working with an organization that is dedicated to handling all manner of mail on its behalf.

Some public mail businesses even email or text message their clients to notify them of special deliveries, packages, and even envelop mail marked special attention.

You Have Several Options to Choose When Buying Mail Slots

December 21st, 2010 by
Share

A mail slot is a special horizontal or vertical slot that is placed in a door or a wall for the purpose of mail delivery. They are used mostly in the city, where buildings are too close together for curbside mailboxes to service them all.

Not only are they used in homes, but they are also used in churches, offices, private schools, and non-profit organizations. Some apartment units also use them so residents can have direct mail delivery to their door.

Horizontal and vertical slots are still used today just as they always have been. Their popularity appears to have no end in sight no matter what other changes we see in our civilization. Perhaps it is the sheer practicality of these devices that accounts for the fact that they are found almost everywhere.

While they originally were used mostly in the large cities of the East Coast, they are becoming more and more common in new constructions throughout the nation. Anywhere where space needs to be saved, no matter what the geography, delivery slots for mail are often used instead of curbside mailboxes.

There are three types of mail slots: Deluxe, Standard, and Vertical.

Standard mail slots are made of brass. They have a spring-loaded flap so they can be installed in the front of a solid door, or in the wall next to the door. They are also made with a special inside trim for the rear of the slot so it will be flush with the wall. Mail slides through it more easily this way without getting caught in the slot. These units come in letter size or magazine size.

It is generally recommended that architects install magazine size slots because carriers have a very difficult time fitting large mail pieces through a letter size slot. Sometimes they have to fold important items, which cause resentment on the part of the recipient. When deciding on how large a delivery slot should be, always give the carrier the benefit of convenience as possible.

Deluxe mail slots are handcrafted units made out of brass. They come in only one large, magazine size, and they are two piece handcrafted units. The word MAIL is cast on the flap to make them easily recognizable to couriers and mail carriers.

Heavy-duty tamper proof brass bolts secure the front and back frames to each other from the rear. This accommodates doors or walls in homes or office buildings that are as deep as one and seven eighths inches thick. The casting for the slot unit is one quarter inch thick. Deluxe slots are U.S.P.S. approved for mail delivery.

Vertical mail slots can be installed on the side of a door, or in the frame of a door. The choice of vertical slots over horizontal slots is often a cosmetic decision. They are much less noticeable than horizontal slots. Vertical slots are also large enough to accommodate magazines and large envelopes. In most cases as well, their primary use is in homes, not businesses.

CBU Mailboxes

October 15th, 2010 by
Share

We sell CBU mailboxes to both commercial and residential communities. Many of our clients are architects who plan entire communities with these cluster mail boxes so both the mail carrier and the residents can have a convenient, central point of mail delivery. Mail carriers use less gas because they do not have to drive for miles around the community dropping off mail at each individual house. Residents do not have to wait for their turn to get their mail comes around. Everything is quicker and more convenient for all parties concerned.

Other clients we service include owners and property managers of office buildings. These individuals call us for pedestal-mounted units as USPS delivery stations because they need an economic space saver that is easy to install on their grounds. We also sell a lot of these unites to apartment complexes as well—particularly the little “Melrose” style communities built around a pool or courtyard that don’t have much, or possibly any, wall space to spare for wall-mounted mailboxes.

In an apartment complex like this, you can put CBU mailboxes in all kinds of places no matter how small the complex actually is. If you have a gate around the complex, you can put the mailboxes right by the gate so people coming home can get their mail as they enter the complex.

Or, you can put the cluster in the center of the complex. You will be surprised when you learn how attractive these boxes are, and how many different styles of architecture and landscaping they compliment.

CBU mailboxes are also very secure they offer the end user. Everyone gets their own mailbox compartment key. No one gets anyone else’s mail. Locked boxes protect against identity theft and nosy or mischievous people. Also, the outgoing mailbox is also locked and can be accessed with a special key by the mail carrier

CBU mailboxes can also be used for internal mail purposes. If an office complex has a handful of suites that surround an atrium or courtyard, then cluster mailboxes can be used here just like they can in courtyard-style apartment layouts. This eliminates the need to devote wall space to mailboxes on the inside of the building.

We can fashion your CBU mailboxes to meet your specific needs. Parcel lockers are built into every cluster for convenience the end user, and per USPS regulations. These mailboxes are meant to stand for years exposed to weather and temperature variables, so they are very tough, corrosion resistant, and come in many colors that will not fade or peel.
