As we mentioned, the products feature an all-welded design. Seams are smoothed out in the manufacturing process to basically turn each unit into a contiguous piece of metal. This prevents inmates from breaking or dissembling them into pieces that could be used as weapons. This is also a vandal-resistant feature that prevents destruction of prison property. Additionally, sharp edges are rounded off so that they cannot be used as cutting edges either in suicide attempts or the manufacture of weapons. Division 10 products, such as towel hooks, are built with a maximum weight capacity. They will break out of the wall if an inmate attempts suicide by hanging.
What are some other vandal resistant features of your detention products for prison construction?
Chase mounting minimizes the risk of fixtures being pulled out of the wall. This applies to Division 10 products, lavatory and toilet combination units, and all-welded cabinet showers. There are some instances when front-mounted accessories may be appropriate, but in most prisons and jails where inmates can and do become agitated, it is best to use chase-mounted equipment that offers the least opportunity for them to pull fixtures out of the wall. Another form of vandalism is vandalism through flooding. Inmates will stop up drains and toilets to flood cells and cell blocks if the equipment is not designed to prevent them from doing so. Water metering in faucets and high-pressure flushing mechanisms in toilets are the best ways to minimize this.
