Three Keys to a Successful Commercial Bathroom Installation

Key #1 – Spend the Money on Better Products
While there are a number of ways to cut costs on commercial bathroom installation, one thing you should never cut corners on is product quality. A great businessman once said, “I have no quarrel with a man whom has a lower price. He, more than anyone, knows what his product is really worth.”

Always remember this when shopping online. If you look hard enough, you will find something priced at a cost that you cannot resist…and almost always regret it when it later fails to meet spec.

Quality is something you do not have to sacrifice to keep your project within budget tolerance. Typically organizations feel forced to do so when working with a supplier who offers only a few products of any particular type. This does not happen when you work with XPB Locker & Supply . We maintain an exceptional selection of products scaled to fit the needs of non-profits, churches, schools, small business centers, and government buildings.

Key #2 – Get Assistance in Planning your Commercial Bathroom Installation
We have seen even the very best drafters and contractors in this industry make mistakes that cost their companies tens of thousands of dollars. Sadly, this is not unusual when the pressure of an imminent timeline is compounded by excessive multi-tasking.

One of the greatest services we offer to prevent such losses is document review. For those with serious interest in our services, we frequently wave our design fee in order to make our turnkey installation service affordable to organizations of all types and sizes.

Key #3 – When Possible, Find a One-Source Solution.
Fewer things are likely to go wrong when the party who reviews your drawings and orders your restroom fixtures also travels to your location to perform your commercial bathroom installation. This turnkey service eliminates the risk of miscommunication that often occurs between multiple contractors. It also ensures greater accountability on our part because we are completely self-reliant and take full responsibility for our actions.

Read some of our case studies and learn how our work has come to speak for itself throughout the state of Texas.

Why Bathroom Stalls for Total Privacy are Top Priority

November 10th, 2012 by
Share

Bathroom stalls for total privacy represent an ideal blend of function, aesthetics, and user amenity. You have to think about a blend of these three factors any time you are developing a new restroom design.  This holds equally true for both new constructions and renovations.  New build outs are expected to look new by offering a blend of the latest fixtures and accessories and an interior design that reflects a certain awareness of decorative trends.  Remodels can be even more demanding than new constructions because these projects are usually undertaken with a limited budget.  Expectations are typically just as high as they are for new constructions, yet funding for these expectations is severely limited.  Organizations have to make some very tough calls when determining bathroom design priorities.  If only one or two things can be replaced with available budgets, the things that matter the very most to a user are the things that need to be upgraded.

Without question, the total privacy of your bathroom stalls is going to rank near the top, if not at the very top, of any priority list you make. People will use practically any mirror you hang on the wall so long as it does not distort their reflection and as long as it is cleaned.  People will also use lavatories that are years behind the times so long as the sinks and faucets are kept clean.  People will also use a trash can even if it is already filled to the brim with refuse—so long as whatever they are throwing away does not fall back on them.  Few users purposefully throw paper towels and other waste on the floor, but if these things fall out of the trash after they throw them away, they typically pretend to not notice this and simply leave the room.

On the other hand, people may turn right around and leave the restroom almost as soon as they enter it if your bathroom stalls have site lines between the doors and pilasters. Some site lines are as large as ½ inch wide, allowing a person to see into the stall even when the door is shut and locked from the inside.  These site lines can be eliminated by adding door jambs to pilasters so that light cannot travel through this gap and generate visibility.  Total privacy can be achieved by replacing 55 inch panels and doors with panels and doors that measure 72 inches in height.   Toilet compartments built with larger components do require some investment on your part.  However, if you have a limited budget that can only afford to partially upgrade your restroom interior, bathroom stalls are the best places to invest those funds because total privacy here ensures total comfort for your user regardless of the aesthetics of other restroom fixtures.

How do you Save Wall Space in Retail Bathrooms?

October 25th, 2012 by
Share

In the attempt to save wall space, many retail bathrooms one of the most important parts of any restrooms to be absolutely certain they are in full accessibility code compliance.  This is typically less necessary than many store managers think.  Users really do not care about where stalls are located, or where urinals are placed, so long as stalls are accessible and comfortable.  In men’s rooms, men do not really care where the urinal is, so long as it isn’t right next to the sink where they are washing their hands.  As important as stall quality is to people, and as necessary as accessibility is to persons with disabilities, the last thing a person sees when he or she leaves the restroom is the lavatory and vanity area.  A negative experience in a crowded vanity area can leave a lasting negative impression on the mind that makes the user shy away from using the store restroom in the future.

When people avoid using retail bathrooms, they typically spend less time in stores.  Less time in your store means less money spent on the things in your store.

It actually works against your efforts to generate repeat business when you try to force a standard toilet stall layout on your retail restroom and sacrifice the size of your vanity area to save wall space.  With determination on your part, and ingenuity on the part of XPB Locker Supply, you can have our design team analyze your floor plan and develop a custom retail bathroom design that meets with accessibility code, honors personal privacy, and leaves you more room near the entrance to install a multi-user, eco-friendly lavatory system that gives both able-bodied and disabled persons a pleasant, comfortable experience as they prepare to leave the restroom.

Most stores do not have the long, rectangular restrooms that office buildings and airports have.  Only the high-end department stores offer this level of luxury, and they have plenty of wall space as well.  More than likely, your store has, for lack of a better term, a room that is much more “squared” in geometry and somewhat smaller than the very large public restrooms in larger buildings.  In this instance, you save wall space in your retail bathroom by separating the ADA stall from the standard stalls, and by possibly mounting urinals on the far sides of the stalls rather than closer to the door.  This leaves you almost half of the front wall on one side to devote to a larger lavatory and better vanity accessories to accommodate your users.

How to Economize Industrial Washroom Design

October 20th, 2012 by
Share

Should we economize our industrial washroom design by purchasing less expensive partitions?

No.  Partitions are expensive to begin with.  They carry the added higher cost of labor intensive installation.  Having to reorder more partitions, possibly pay to customize them, and then reinstall your entire stall layout will eat up any front-end savings almost immediately.  You are better off investing in solid plastic now and receiving a return in the form of lower maintenance and reduced replacement costs.  Plastic is amazingly corrosion resistant, impact resistant, and, if damaged, easy to repair in house without having to pay for special repairs.

You can further economize your industrial washroom design with plastic partitions by using some of them as employee shower stalls.  Individual showers, including ADA compliant showers, can be placed within these stalls to accommodate the need to wash off contaminants at the end of the shift.  Using a single space for both restroom stalls and shower stalls eliminates the expenditures of building a separate shower room.

How do we create enough room for both shower stalls and toilet stalls?

You free up wall space by using a central washfountain.  We recommend a standard model, centrally mounted, to leave as much of the wall open for lockers, showers, toilet areas, and urinals.

What about ADA compliance?  Do we need an ADA compliant wash fountain?

No.  ADA washfountains have shallower bowls.  People have to wash their arms and hands longer and end up using more water.  In an industrial restroom design, it is better to use a corner wash fountain or Frequency wall mounted lavatory to accommodate disabled persons.  Your restroom is still compliant, but special spaces are allocated for compliance, saving overall floor and wall space in the process.

How can we build ADA stalls, standard stalls, showers, and two separate wash areas all in the same bathroom?

This always appears in impossible challenge that is really not impossible at all.  Typically, the original design needs to be modified in a few key points to free up just enough room to fit all the necessary features into the floor plan.  By experimenting with different stall layouts, and different locations for hand washing and/or vanity areas, we can make the existing space do everything to meet the basic needs of both accessibility compliance and workplace demand.

Can you help us with our industrial washroom design?

Yes.  We need measurements and any preliminary CAD drawings to begin the process of designated precise spaces for specific functions.  Fixture and accessories are easier to choose within budget once the design is finalized.
