Juvenile Wash Fountains are often slightly smaller
versions of proven and popular wash fountains for adults. Obviously, they have a
lower height and some multi-bowl wash fountains have dual bowls with different
heights. And since children have shorter arms the bowls may have smaller
diameters. But virtually all wash
fountains for children have the same features as the larger versions for
adults.
Children’s Handwash Sinks
Juvenile Wash
Fountains are important for children’s hygiene but equally important is the
hand washing habits of children.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have stated that the
best way to prevent infection and avoid colds and flues is to properly wash your
hands with soap and water. It is
estimated by some experts that 80% of all infections are transmitted by the
hands. And the most recent data available suggests that children lose twenty-two
million school days every year due to the common cold. Adults should set good examples for
children and practice hand washing after using the bathroom, before preparing
food, before eating, after handling uncooked poultry and meat, after coughing,
sneezing, or blowing their nose, after changing diapers, and any time the hands
are dirty. Similarly, children
should be taught to always wash their hands after using the bathroom, after
coughing, sneezing, or blowing their noses, before eating, and whenever their
hands are dirty.
Wash Fountains
for Children
Children should
be taught the proper steps of hand washing when using Juvenile Wash Fountains.
They should wet their hands with warm water and apply soap. All surfaces of the
hands should be rubbed together to make a lather. The rubbing process should
last from fifteen to twenty seconds.
To help children time the process it can be suggested that they sing a
simple song such as “Happy Birthday.”
The hands should then be rinsed well under running water. The hands
should then be dried with a paper towel or air dryer. If paper towels are available they can
be used to turn off a manually operated faucet. This will help prevent transmission of
diseases. If soap is not available then an alcohol-based hand rub is a good
substitute.
Kid’s Terreon Hand Wash Stations
One of the more popular models of Juvenile
Wash Fountains is the Terreon® Deep Bowl Washfountain. They are available in
juvenile height options which make them suitable for schools and other
facilities used by children. These
washfountains are compliant with the proposed ADA guidelines of washfountains’ heights for
children’s use. In addition,
another ADA
compliant feature of this washfountain is that it has a full spray ring that
allows a wheelchair user to wash his or her arms. It also has sufficient knee
and toe clearance for wheelchair users. The Terreon bowl is made from a durable
material that resists burns, chemicals, stains, and impacts. This durability makes the bowl suitable
for high volume, high-abuse washrooms and industrial applications. Scratches can
be easily removed with standard abrasive cleaners or fine grit abrasives. The
bowl is available in 36 and 54 inch diameters.
Foot Control and Infrared Control Children’s Wash
Fountains
Juvenile Wash
Fountains offer the same features as their larger adult cousins. They are
designed to offer more hand-washing stations per square foot than conventional
lavatories. They offer “no touch” water activation with infrared sensors and
water savings with a low flow rate of 0.5 gallons per minute. The newer
bowl materials are more durable and more vandal resistant. They are also easier to repair if
damaged. The water supply and waste connections are usually “hidden” within a
pedestal to prevent incidents of vandalism.
