Residential Townhouse Mailboxes are a blend of function and style.  They are usually constructed from die cast aluminum with a durable powder coat finish.  Aluminum mailboxes are an excellent choice because it is a metal that will never rust.  Aluminum, however, can oxidize over time and that is why a powder coating is applied.   A well maintained and unscratched powder-coated mailbox can last one hundred years.  An aluminum mailbox is the perfect solution for severe climates and coastal areas.

What is a powder coating?  It is a painting process that is extremely tough and durable.  The painting process is achieved by applying an electrical charge to the mailbox and an opposite electrical charge to the paint (powder).  These opposite electrical charges result in the paint adhering to the metal in an extraordinarily durable fashion.  That is why many metal products, including some airplane engine parts, are painted (powder-coated) in this manner.  A Residential Townhouse Mailbox will be able to endure the weather, climate, temperature and humidity with an attractive powder-coated finish.

Residential Townhouse Mailboxes are usually surface mounted which means they are attached to an existing wall or other vertical structure.  This means that the mailboxes are almost always opened from the top.  There are four different colors to choose from so you can easily match the color to the exterior of your home or office.  And our decorative designs will give your mailbox a little extra style to enjoy every day.

Our surface mounted Residential Townhouse Mailboxes are approved for use by the United States Postal Service (USPS) and may be used for residential door mail delivery. This approval is important because every mailbox, letterbox or receptacle that is to be used for the delivery of postage paid mail must comply with the standards.  The standards and regulations also cover flag size, mailbox size, strength and quality of construction.  They also include the mailbox interiors and door access to conform to expected mail sizes.

The history of the modern mailbox is believed to have started in Paris, France in 1653,  At that time the first post boxes were installed and by 1829 mailboxes were in use throughout France.  Public mail collection boxes began to appear in the United States in the 1850s.  They were commonly found in large cities outside post offices and on street corners.  Some mail collection boxes were mounted on lamp posts.  As time passed and mail volume grew, the Post Office Department replaced the smaller boxes with larger, free-standing collection boxes.  Later, the Post Office Department began offering home delivery service to millions of American homes.  And finally, Americans could install their own residential townhouse mailboxes as long as they met the standards established by the USPS.

How do you mount our Residential Townhouse Mailbox?  First, you should contact your local USPS office to determine the required height of the mailbox on the wall.  Usually you are mounting it to a flat wall so you will need some fasteners and anchors appropriate for the type of wall and wall material.  Usually 1/4” diameter flat-head screws provide the strongest and best fit.  If possible, try to place your mailbox in an area that is shielded from direct sunlight and rain.   The access for mounting the mailbox is provided by opening the top of the mailbox.  Hold the mailbox horizontally and level and then mark on the wall the position of the three mounting holes that are in the back of the mailbox.  Use these three marks on the wall to install three anchors if they are needed.  If anchors are not needed then use a screwdriver or ratchet with screwdriver to tighten the three screws into the wall.
