Metal Open Access Children’s Cubbies

Metal open access children’s cubbies combine long vertical storage compartments with cubicle storage compartments in an efficient, accessible, space-saving design. 

There are four model designs available through XPB Locker.  Each design can be ordered with one, two, or three vertical columns of compartments.  Each column of compartments, so to speak, would give each individual student both vertical and cubical storage areas. 

So what are the four types of metal open access children’s cubbies, and what age groups are they most appropriate for?

The smallest children need a smaller unit that they can safely reach into.  For the very early grades, we recommend the Primary Junior cubby locker.  It is only 24” high—ideal for pre-K on up the 3^rd grade.  It features one vertical storage compartment from top to bottom and provides plenty of room for primary school supply storage.

Taller, older students will of course need more storage area and specifically allocated storage divisions.  The other three models we sell, the Primary, Primary II, and Backpack Cubby locker, are all 48” high.  These metal open access children’s cubbies all combine a combination of cubicle storage space with vertical storage space. 

The Primary design features a vertical storage compartment stretching from the top down to close to the floor.  Beneath this vertical compartment is a smaller, cubical storage area at floor level.  This is a good basic design for slightly older students who are beginning to bring more supplies to school, or who need to store specific supplies given to them in class.

If more space than this is needed, the Primary II cubby locker features an additional cubicle compartment at the top as well as at the bottom of the locker.  Some schools encourage students to keep personal items in the bottom cubicle compartments and in the vertical compartment, while keeping school-owned classroom supplies in the very top compartment.  Particularly in science classes where special tools may be needed, this open access children’s cubby helps teachers keep up with supplies.

Students who carry a lot of books in binders, and who also carry a great deal of supplies and personal belongings in backpacks, need metal open access children’s cubbies that offer larger cubicle storage space.  The Backpack cubby locker offers just that.  It has two rectangular storage areas with extra width to accommodate backpacks and binders.  These two compartments fill approximately the top half of the cubby.  The bottom half is divided into two side-by-side vertical compartments that provide additional personal storage space for special items.
