Should I buy Vertical or Horizontal USPS Mailboxes?

The choice should be based on space requirements of two different sorts.  One is the overall available floor space of your building.  The other is your available wall space.

The first thing to look at is your floor plan.  Rear loading USPS mailboxes require corridor access from behind.  If your building can be constructed with such a corridor, or if you are remodeling a building that already has such a corridor, then rear loading mailboxes will allow you to service a large number of users with a smaller amount of wall space.

Rear loading, horizontal USPS mailboxes stack one on top of the other.  Each box unit is smaller than their vertical counterparts, so less room is needed to accommodate a large number of users.  If you have an apartment building, office building, or postal mail retail center, then horizontally mounted units that load from the rear are the best possible option.

If you have limited wall space, many users, but no room for a mail corridor, you can also buy front loading horizontal USPS mailboxes.  This is particularly beneficial to buildings that remodeling to accommodate new tenants.  Surface mounted horizontal units that load from the front offer the most cost effective, space management solution to meet the needs of users.

Then again, you may have a very small apartment building, office building, or rural postal center than only caters to a small number of users.  In this event, you can offer your users more personal mail storage space with vertical mailboxes.  These units are large enough that most oversized mail can be neatly stacked without being folded.  Magazines can be placed in these boxes without permanently creasing the pages.

Vertical USPS mail boxes load from the front.  They are very easy for mail carriers to access.  Sometimes couriers get into a hurry due to heavy demands on their time.  Most prefer the vertical boxes because they are easier to load mail into without having to stuff oversized mail into a cramped space.  It is also easier to load mail into boxes that people do not check every day.

The only disadvantage to vertically mounted USPS mail boxes is that they do take up a great deal of wall space.  Buildings that plan to expand in the future need to make certain that they have enough room on the mail wall to add new boxes in the event that more tenants move in.
