What are column showers?

Column showers are commercial showers for recreational facilities that are installed in the floor.  Drawing water from a single plumbed source in the floor, they distribute through multiple shower heads mounted in a circle at the top of the column.  Several people can use the shower at once, making this a very efficient way of servicing a large group of people who would otherwise have to sit on benches, or wait in line, to use a shower stall.

Won’t people feel uncomfortable taking a shower in a group with no privacy?

Some people honestly do, and since an organization never really knows who may feel uncomfortable with this, it is recommended to plan to spend a little extra money on some kind of privacy dividers.  These dividers, such as our solid plastic shower partitions, can be installed with either doors or shower curtains that separate the column into individual spaces, and that seal off visibility into the interior of one’s personal space.

Is it hard to divide commercial showers for recreational facilities into private stalls?

It can be if you are trying to piecemeal columns and partitions together yourself.  That is why XPB Locker has already designed a number of preconfigured shower systems for facilities that want the space saving and water usage efficiency of a group shower, but who also want their guests to feel comfortable in their own private shower stalls.  There are several of these systems that are located on our site.  You can also request that we custom design you individual shower stalls using other shower equipment that may be better suited to your facility.

Does that mean that column showers are not always beneficial for every recreational center?

Yes.  Column showers require floor mounting to a plumbed connection in the floor.  You may not find this type of installation economically feasible, or even possible in your building.  Never worry.  We have paneled showers that can mount to the wall and handle a large number of users at once.  Like column showers, they too can be divided into private user stalls.

We also have several different types of individual wall mounted showers and space saving shower assemblies that mount to smaller walls and handle three users at once per unit.

Do you have outdoor commercial showers for recreational facilities near swimming areas and trails?

Yes.  The beach showers on our site are your best option for giving people in shorts or swim trunks a place to quickly rinse off outside after a swim or a hike.
