What lavatories do you recommend for chemical plants and refineries?
If your chemical plant or refinery produces a high level of industrial contaminants, we recommend that you install at least one heavy duty, Terreon deep bowl wash fountain. A circular model will accommodate 8 users at a time and will allow them to wash all the way up to their elbows. While you will no doubt find some wash fountains in our inventory that are ADA compliant, we recommend that you invest in a deep bowl unit because ADA compliant wash fountains do not allow users to easily wash as far up their arms as they require for safety purposes. (In some environments, too, you may also need to install showers for your workers, which we can also build for you using custom wall units and plastic partitions configured for total privacy.)
This is not to say that you have to choose between a washfountain and a standard lavatory. This is not an either-or scenario. Many chemical plants and refineries will install both in order to accommodate heavy duty hand washing needs and accessibility needs more. You may have, in your facility, several user groups using the same restroom. Not only are workers coming into the restroom off the plant floor, but management, business partners, clients, and vendors are all also using the restroom. These persons may not require a hand wash fountain, or these persons may have accessibility needs that a wash fountain cannot provide.
We therefore recommend installing either an Advocate system or a Frequency lavatory, both of which are ideal for chemical plants and refineries. Both systems are available in Terreon, which is a chemical and stain resistant solid surface material that is also GREENGUARD Certified. Both are ADA complaints, with specific advantages offered by each design. The Frequency features the very best knee clearance of any commercial sink, and it also features a very contemporary appearance as well. The Advocate system offers superior water overflow prevention. This is a good choice for a restroom that is constantly having a problem with a wet floor safety hazard. Additionally, the Advocate has a built in hand dryer unit that eliminates the need for paper towels, as well as a light-powered, no touch faucet and built in soap dispenser.
