Picnics have been an important part in our culture in America since the 19^th century.  In the 17^th century the French organized a “piquenique” or a form of a potluck event in which each person brought a dish to share with others.  Later, in the 18^th century, the French word was translated to English as “picnic.” However, although the word and the event existed in Europe, it still had not arrived in America. Finally, during the 19^th century the outdoor concept of a picnic arrived to America and became part of our culture.  There have been various changes or versions of the picnic since then, but they all have one thing in common – a casual meal and social gathering enjoyed by friends and/or family in an outdoor setting.

Picnic Tables are sometimes referred to as picnic benches and are basically a modified table with built-in benches or seats on both sides.  It appears that picnic tables may have arrived as early as the late 1800’s and were used in public gathering places in small towns throughout America.

The earliest picnic tables were made of wood such as cedar, pine and other hardwoods.  However, over time the materials used for the construction of picnic tables have evolved and now they are made from commercial-grade plastic, PVC, steel, aluminum, recycled materials, plastic coated metal and wood.

Our Octagonal Picnic Tables are finished (coated) to endure the weather and elements with virtually no maintenance. The table tops and seats are coated with a rugged thermoplastic layer that is not only attractive but durable. The table legs are constructed of galvanized tubular steel and are protected with a black powder coat finish.  All table and seat corners are rounded for safety.  The tables measure 46 inches and can be ordered in a variety of 16 beautiful colors.  The table can be ordered with a portable mount, surface mount or in-ground mount.  It has a weight of approximately 240 pounds and is easily assembled.
