Restroom Partitions for Office Buildings

Different types of office buildings require different types of restroom partitions. The size, type, and construction budget for a particular type of commercial establish can be used as a guideline for the best style and partition material to select for any given project.

There are four main mounting styles for bathroom partitions and several material options ranging from the low end to the high end. Let’s look at mounting style first.

The most popular style is the floor mounted, overhead ceiling braced style. The primary anchor for the divider is in the floor, with a secondary anchor provided by a brace that runs along the ceiling and attaches to the wall. This is recommended for restrooms that see a lot of traffic throughout the day.

Toilet dividers in very high traffic restrooms may need even more reinforcement. As long as the ceiling measures 10 feet high or less, a floor and ceiling mount will give the entire restroom partition assembly maximum rigidity in the face of constant use.

Floor mounted restroom partitions are needed in ceilings higher than 10 feet. They require a 3 inch concrete base beneath the floor to install. They are also easier to clean because they do not have the overhead piece stretching to the ceiling.

Ceiling hung partitions have to be used in very small restrooms where the ceilings are lower than 8 feet. They make it easy to clean the floor in cramped quarters.

If partitions or being purchased for a remodeling project, architects may be limited in their choices based upon the nature of the floor or ceiling. Ceiling hung partitions required the ceiling to be reinforced in order to install.

The materials that restroom partitions are actually made from range in price considerably. Choosing a material should be based upon the nature of the building and the available budget for construction.

For small office buildings that are operating on tight construction budgets, baked enamel or plastic laminate partitions work well. Typically these smaller buildings have very small companies, so the restrooms don’t see a great deal of traffic and therefore do not experience as much wear and tear.

Larger buildings will need something sturdier to handle larger numbers of employees. Mid-range price materials for these mid-sized buildings are solid Phenolic and stainless steel. These restroom partitions can withstand heavier usage and offer provide a higher level of décor.

For skyscrapers that are homes to major banks, large financial services companies, and corporate headquarters of major companies, architects will no doubt want the best high-end bathroom partitions that money can buy. These high-end materials include solid plastic that is both highly decorative and super resistant to wear and tear and vandalism.
