Economizing School Bathrooms

October 10th, 2012 by
Share

How do you economize school bathrooms in terms of stall construction?

We can help create a design, determine a style, and offer a range of materials that match your existing space and budget.  For long-term value, you can invest in solid plastic partitions which offer the highest level of vandal and moisture resistance.  Stainless steel also offers these advantages and contributes a very sophisticated look to the design.  However, if you are on a budget, plastic laminate, solid phenolic, and even baked enamel in some cases can be substituted in the interests of reducing costs.  If you have a smaller population, with less likelihood of deliberate vandalism, these materials can offer you immediate short term value and satisfactory long term value.

Do you help with design?

We can design your entire restroom for you if you give us the appropriate measurements for wall areas and square footage.  We can design the toilet stalls for both standard user and ADA access.  Sometimes this involves developing a new layout, sometimes it is only a matter of determining the number of stalls that is truly needed for a student population.  We will also recommend mounting styles and customization options, which include those that offer increased privacy for students.

Do you economize school bathrooms in other respects?

Yes.  Lavatory systems with fewer connections are easier for contractors to install.  Multi-user functionality allows for more than one student to be serviced in less physical space.  Also, using touch free faucets, a school can reduce the cost of operations by conserving water.

Do these new lavatories have ADA compliant models?

Yes.  One in particular, the Bradley Frequency lavatory, has the most exceptional knee clearance of any type of commercial sink on the market.  Other options include the Crescent, the OmniDeck, and the Verge, to name a few.

Do you have combination paper towel dispensers and waste receptacles?

Yes.  These are great for saving on space, but there is an even better way to save on space and budget.  Hand dryers eliminate the need for paper towels, which in turn also creates a cleaner environment with less temptation to vandalize floors and toilets with paper towels.  This eliminates constant repurchasing of new supplies, and it results in a much cleaner environment.  Other combination fixtures exists for stall areas and vanity areas that can economize school bathrooms even more.  Ask our design team about options when you call us.

Bathroom Stalls for Architectural Design

September 1st, 2012 by

XPB Locker Supply will Help Clients Meet all Accessibility Requirements.

Accessibility requirements for bathroom stalls vary from state to state.  ADA regulations are federally mandated and as such represent a universal standard for restroom architectural design.  However, these standards must be seen as merely baseline when we take into account that many areas of the United States have state and local codes that specify additional requirements for handicapped access.

To accommodate this level of regulation, XPB Locker Supply maintains a full inventory of toilet partition hardware and commercial restroom accessories that will enable contractors to build commercial restrooms that are fully up to code in their particular region.

XPB Locker Supply will Assist in Developing Your Layout Configuration.

When clients face challenging scenarios where a high level of accessibility must be provided in a very limited space, XPB Locker Supply offers detailed architectural design assistance in helping facility managers, architects, and contractors come up with the very best layout configurations for the space at hand.

ADA and other handicapped accessible bathroom stalls can be developed in freestanding layouts, corner alcove layouts, alcoves, between wall layouts, and open-ended layouts, just to name a few.

XPB Locker Supply will also customize partitions, panels, and doors for specific restroom environments.

One of the more popular customization options we offer is the European no-site configuration.  This layout is ideal for public restrooms where users have a high expectation of privacy.  The no-site layout eliminates the gap between the door and the pilaster, essentially creating a solid surface when the door is closed.  This not only has proven very effective in restroom partition design, but also in shower rooms where exceptionally large partitions are used to create shower stalls.

XPB Locker will recommend the best bathroom stall materials and mounting style for your particular architectural design.

Factors such as the distance between the floor and the ceiling, the number of users coming in and out of the restroom during the day, and the likelihood of deliberate vandalism all play a role in determining which partition materials should be used and how partitions, pilasters, and doors should be mounted.  In high traffic environments, or in places where the risk of vandalism is great, stronger materials are recommended in order to reduce the likelihood of replacement costs.  When budgets are limited, mid-ranged materials with reinforced mounting styles may be substituted to strike a balance between front-end costs and long-term investment value.

Metal Toilet Partitions for Commercial Restrooms

August 30th, 2012 by

What environments typically prefer metal toilet partitions for commercial restrooms?

Clean environments, as many call them, prefer stainless steel for its super hygienic qualities.  Stainless steel is non-porous.  Because it blocks the absorption of water, bacteria do not have time to breed on its surface.  The material is remarkably easy to clean—so easy, in fact, that many people have to be reminded to only use warm soap and water to wipe the surface down.

Stainless steel toilet partitions are popular in hospital restrooms, medical clinic restrooms, and food processing plants for this reason.  Crews can go into the restroom several times a day and wipe down the partitions in only a few minutes.  This minimizes labor costs and keeps the facility clean throughout the day.

There are also many organizations that prefer the attraction factor that metal partitions add to commercial restrooms.  A large percentage of new restroom constructions and remodels feature an upscale look, a contemporary/modern look, or a blend of the two.  Stainless steel features a unique aesthetic that many could describe as a blend of the chic and the minimalist.  As such, it contributes sophistication to more formal bathroom designs, but it contributes a sense of less-is-more when surrounded by contemporary and modern designs.  This makes it something of a universal material in the world of restroom build outs.

How durable are Bradley stainless steel toilet partitions?

They are exceptionally durable due to two unique features of their construction.  For one thing, panels feature a seamless construction that is created by bonding two separate metal sheets together.  The interior of each sheet consists of a water-resistant honeycomb surface that enables sheets to tightly fit together.  The panels are welded around the edge to create the Bradley trademarked Permaseal design that makes the entire length of the edge, along with all four corners, absolutely impervious to moisture.

Are stainless steel toilet partitions environmentally friendly?

The newest generation is.  Along with many other materials that Bradley uses to make toilet partitions, stainless steel is now GREENGUARD Certified as a low-emitting substance.  This allows facility managers in charge of LEED projects to take advantage of the physical and aesthetic qualities of stainless steel and still remain compliant with new, environmental awareness and building requirements.

What mounting styles are metal toilet partitions for commercial restrooms?

They can be mounted to the floor, ceiling hung, floor to ceiling mounted, or floor mounted overhead braced.

Restaurant Restrooms

May 2nd, 2011 by

Restaurant restrooms must be designed for sanitation and comfort of patrons. No one likes a dirty restroom. XPB Locker Supply helps architects accommodate both cleanliness and comfort with supplies and accessories ideal for restaurants large and small.

When selecting bathroom partitions for restaurant restrooms, the two most important things to look at are sanitation and space utilization. Ideally the partition should resist all forms of bacterial buildup. Stainless steel and phenolic core are the best at doing this because they are completely nonporous. Nothing can seep into the surface and grow there. This makes them easier to clean with simple wipe downs.

The restroom’s size will vary according to the size of the restroom. It is essential that architects be able to locate commercial restroom partitions that will mount in any new construction or remodel project. These options include, but are not limited, to ceiling hung partitions, floor mounted partitions, and wall mounted partitions. There are also quick ship partitions that are already built and ready to ship.

Wall mirrors for restaurant restrooms need to be durable and attractive so they can compliment any interior architecture. Our inventory contains models which will work with any interior restroom design. They are stainless steel reinforced, which makes them very hard to break and easy to clean.

Hand dryers should be installed in restaurants of all sizes. Restaurants are high traffic environments, so the sheer number of paper towels consumed by patrons represents an enormous cost. Secondly, eliminating paper towels eliminates the all too often problem of paper towels on the floor. Nothing turns people off more than to see trash on the floor. When people see this, they not only talk, they post things on the internet. From the standpoint of reputation management and social media, it is a smart move for any restaurant to get rid of paper towel waste and eliminate the possibility of this happening—at least when it comes to the topic of trash on the floor. Case studies have shown almost universal improvement in public relations for any business that switches over to hand dryers. In a heavy traffic industry like food service, this is sure to earn points with patrons when it comes time to write online reviews.

Special bathroom accessories for restaurant restrooms give special consideration to the impaired, the elderly, and babies. Grab bars let people with mobility issues sit down and lift up without the risk of falling. Baby changing stations allow people to change diapers on solid, antimicrobial surfaces dedicated specifically to that task.

Toilet Partitions for Factory Restroom Design

April 20th, 2011 by
Share

Toilet partitions for factory restroom design must offer corrosion resistance, ease of maintenance, and multiple options in mount configurations to ensure a return on investment for the organization that procures them. .

Toilet dividers for factory restroom design need to be corrosion resistant to minimize replacement costs in heavily polluted areas and for organizations specializing in the manufacture of fuels and certain chemicals. The best commercial bathroom dividers to use in both environments are solid plastic, baked enamel, and stainless steel, depending on how much money you want to spend.

Baked enamel is the least expensive, but it is not vandal resistant like plastic or stainless steel. Also, it requires a bit more extra care in cleaning which we will look at in a minute.

Obviously plastic, which lasts a thousand years even when thrown away, is not going to rust, nor is stainless steel, which is designed to resist rust and chemical airborne corrosives. While more expensive, stainless steel and solid plastic are tougher and ensure a solid ROI for those who can afford the front end purchase costs.

Regardless of your choice in partition material, all three toilet partition options that we recommend for factory restroom design are very low maintenance when you follow the basic guidelines for care.

To begin with, stainless steel is very hard to scratch and takes a lot of force to dent. However, there is one thing that will destroy it, and that is anything acidic that can eat through metal. Never let your cleaning crew put anything on a stainless steel partition that has an acid based composition.

For solid plastic toilet partitions, the cardinal rule is to never use any kind of heavy duty scouring pad that will leave visible grooves in the plastic. You can, however, use a soft bristle brush to remove buildup of dirt, grime, and grease. If someone vandalizes the partition by scratching it, you can also apply a heat source from 6 inches away and smooth the plastic back together. However, you have to be careful with this because melting the plastic will warp it.

Baked enamel toilet partitions require the most attentive care of any used in factory restroom design. This does not mean they are delicate, per se, but they cannot be scrubbed with force, nor can they take exposure to strong chemicals. Clean baked enamel with lukewarm soap and water in one bucket and clear water in another bucket. Let the soap do most of the work, then wipe the soap off with a soft rag. Rinse the surface, and wipe off the clear water to keep water spots from forming.

Toilet partitions may need to be mounted from the floor or the ceiling depending on what a particular factory restroom design calls for. Ask XBP Locker Supply help you find the right mounting option for your particular floor plan.

Shower Cubicles

January 28th, 2011 by
Share

What are shower cubicles?

They are partitions that create personal space and privacy for individuals taking a shower in a public place.

The most versatile cubicles are those that are floor mounted and overhead braced. This type of mount allows the cubicles to be placed in either new constructions or remodels without any special flooring or ceiling requirements. They are vandal resistant and moisture resistant, so they will last for years in even the toughest environments.

Who would use shower cubicles?

Large mechanical shops and heavy equipment shops provide showers for their workers to clean up in after a long day in the shop.

Chemical plants and refineries provide workers with showers for safety reasons.

Military personnel must shower as a matter of hygiene and discipline

Truck stops and rest areas provide showers for convenience and courtesy, as do camp grounds and parks.

Schools have them in every locker room.

Prisons often use them to provide greater privacy for inmates.

Health Spas provide them as a luxurious amenity for guests.

What they would use shower cubicles?

Taking a shower promote cleanliness and prevents odor. In areas where people live together in groups, this makes for more pleasant living conditions. It also minimizes the spread of disease.

Taking a shower after working out also removes infections agents that can cause serious problems if they get into cuts, or work their way under the skin.

Then again, some people just like taking a shower, hot or cold. Such people will be very happy if you provide them with a place to ease their minds under the water stream. There is much to be said about therapeutic benefit beyond the practical, especially when it comes to attracting repeat business.

When do people most need shower cubicles?

Athletes need them after practice and games.

Industrial workers need to shower before changing into evening clothes and returning home. This prevents potentially hazardous agents from following them home.

When anyone wants to clean up before going on to another venture, it makes for a smoother transition into a less stressful environment.

Anyone leaving a gym will sleep better if he or she has a good shower before turning in for bed that night.

How using floor mounted overhead braced shower cubicles would benefit the organization?

You can install them anywhere and keep them clean with relatively little effort. They will last for years and give you a great return on your investment.

Restroom Dividers

January 28th, 2011 by
Share

Next to toilets and sinks restroom dividers are the most important things you can install in a restroom.

When people walk into a public restroom, they want to have the same level of privacy that they enjoy at home. People will always choose a facility that offers them privacy over one that does not. This can be very bad for businesses.

Every place you go has restroom dividers. They are found in far more than commercial bathrooms. Public parks, country clubs, stadiums, retail outlet malls, movie theatres are five examples of thousands of facility types that provide public bathrooms to clients and visitors.

Because there are so many types of industries that have public restrooms, and because there are so many different types of bathroom interiors, Bradley commercial partitions are made so that they can be mounted in four different ways.

Ceiling hung restroom dividers are used to conserve floor space in small restrooms. In restrooms with low ceilings, floor mounted partitions are used to conserve space in the upper vertical cube. The sturdiest partition walls are floor mounted and braced at the ceiling, while floor and ceiling hung partitions are a cost effective, near equivalent to floor mounted, ceiling braced models.

In addition to the four ways to mount restroom dividers, there are four different materials from which partitions are built. There are powder coated metal partitions, stainless steel partitions, solid plastic partitions, andphenolic partitions.

Powder coated metal commercial bathroom partitions are the easiest to install, and they are the least expensive as well. Stainless steel is more expensive of course, and it is more attractive. It is the by nature vandal resistant and super hygienic too, so it is the preferred material of health care facilities that can afford it.

Plastic is low maintenance, vandal resistant, and graffiti resistant. It is also water resistant and ideal for hot, humid climates. Phenolic restroom dividers act much like plastic. However, in addition to being water resistant, they are oil and bacteria resistant too. They can be used for showers partitions, and they are easy to clean.

Restroom dividers can be customized to accommodate the dimensions and special needs of individual restroom facilities. ADA compliant units are available so full handicapped accessibility is guaranteed in the restroom.

Restroom Stalls Give Builders Many Options

January 20th, 2011 by
Share

Todays market offers the architect and the contractor an extensive array of restroom stalls to assist in designing any type of restroom interior. A wide range of material builds, colors, and mounting styles makes it possible to accommodate restrooms of all sizes in buildings ranging from schools, government offices, restaurants, country clubs, malls, office buildings, banks, and churches.

The materials used to manufacture restroom partitions ensure that they will last for many years, if not for many decades. Once installed, the intention is to maintain them with as little effort as possible. Aside from normal wear and tear, all toilet compartments must be impervious to vandal resistance.

In certain environments, a restroom stall must also be hygienic to maintain as sterile of an environment as possible. We see this frequently in the health care industry, where antibacterial surfaces are mandated in patient restrooms.

Cost effectiveness is a major consideration for many organizations. In these cases, the best materials may not be affordable. Then again, the most durable materials may not be required, either.

Some environments are less prone to vandalism. They do not see much traffic and consequently do not suffer as much wear and tear. Normal environments do not require the super health consciousness of a doctor’s office.

Considerations of vandal resistance, moisture resistance, budget, color, mounting, and level of maintenance are balanced to assist the contractor in finding the most suitable solution.

If cost effectiveness is the main concern, baked enamel restroom stalls are the best choice.

They are constructed around a two piece interlocking panel that makes them strong and moisture resistant. This prevents panel rust out.

Because of their longevity and low cost, baked enamel partitions are the dividers most commonly chosen by smaller office buildings, schools, restaurants, malls, and factories on a budget.

Plastic laminate partitions are the next least expensive partition option that architects can install.

Larger offices, movie theaters, manufacturing facilities, high end restaurants, and retailers often use plastic partitions because they block the absorption of water and are therefore resistant to graffiti from markers and pens.

The solid phenolic restroom stall is a considerable step up in quality and price from both baked enamel and plastic laminate. Phenolic is a resin impregnated material that is pressurized, heated, compressed, and covered by a decorative melamine face. This creates a surface area that is both water resistant and impact resistant.

There is no risk of delamination because there is no core. Phenolic is contiguous throughout. It is ideal for any hot, humid environment prone to vandalism. It is often used in shower stalls, locker rooms, stadiums, roadside parks, and schools.

Stainless steel toilet partitions are made for sanitary environment, heavy traffic areas, and high end retail facilities. Stainless steel has a highly aesthetic quality complimentary to superior interior design work. It is also bacteria resistant, which is why it is used so much in medical facility restrooms. It is more expensive, but worth the investment.

The most powerful of any restroom stall is fusion granite. It is stain and scratch resistant. It can look like either granite or be colored to imitate stainless steel.

Fusion granite partitions are very expensive and normally sold to ultra high end casinos, art galleries, museums, five star resorts, famous restaurants, and elite spas. It is considered the very best of materials and offers the least amount of maintenance due to its rugged constitution.

Restroom Dividers Accommodate both People and Architecture

January 14th, 2011 by
Share

Aside from plumbing, toilets, and lavatories, restroom dividers are the most important things that an organization can install in a commercial bathroom. Partitions define the emotional comfort level of the restroom as well. Aside from a clean, odor free environment, privacy is the most important consideration to most people when they visit a public facility.

Anyone who walks into a public restroom hopes that they can find in that environment the same level of privacy and dignity that they experience at home. If people feel uncomfortable about a particular restroom, they will feel uncomfortable about the building it is in, and they may never return.

This is obviously bad for businesses.

Because of this, almost all public restrooms now use some type of restroom dividers to create private stalls around toilets and urinals. These partitions are used in both private and public sector facilities. They are found in the world of commerce, transportation, administration, government, defense, recreation, and education.

The simple fact of the matter is that every one of these sectors is operated by humans who have to go the restroom at some point in time during the day. Organizations that invest in bathroom partitions see to it that people are appropriately accommodated with the privacy they expect.

Another very important fact is that different buildings have different interior architecture in their restrooms. These interiors must be accommodated as well. Restroom dividers are consequently manufactured in a manner that allows them to be mounted in four different ways.

Ceiling hung restroom partitions attach only to the ceiling and stop before they reach the floor. They are used to conserve floor space in very small restrooms.

Floor mounted partitions are used in remodels where either the ceiling cannot be penetrate, or it cannot be feasibly reached due to height.

The most vandal resistant and sturdy partition walls are floor mounted at the bottom and braced at the ceiling. The brace not only penetrates the ceiling but runs back toward the wall parallel to the top of the partition.

Floor and ceiling hung partitions are not quite as rugged as overhead braced equivalents, but they come close enough. They are also cost effective, easier to install, and well able to handle heavy traffic.

In addition to the four mounting styles, there are also four primary materials that are used to manufacture restroom dividers.

Partitions are made from powder coated metal, stainless steel, solid plastic, or phenolic.

Powder coated partitions are fireproof and made from 100 percent recycled metal content. Many designer colors are available, and they are the least expensive and least difficult dividers to install.

Stainless steel partitions are more expensive of course. That is because they are much more attractive and hygienic. They are the favored restroom dividers of the health care industry for this reason. Obviously as well, they are super vandal resistant.

Plastic is low maintenance and very inexpensive. It is also very vandal resistant and particularly resistant to graffiti. This is because it is water resistant and does not absorb moisture from pens or markers. This also makes plastic ideal for hot, humid climates.

Phenolic restroom partitions behave much like plastic. However, in addition to being water resistant, they are oil and bacteria resistant too. This makes them more impervious to chemical damage and more hygienic for health conscious environments that may not be able to afford stainless steel. They can be used for showers partitions, and they are easy to clean.

Restroom dividers can be customized to accommodate the dimensions and special needs of individual restroom facilities. ADA compliant units are available so full handicapped accessibility is guaranteed in the restroom.
