Security Lockers

August 3rd, 2011 by

Police and military personnel use security lockers to store uniforms, clothing, personal belongings, special equipment, and weapons.  Adjustable shelves allow for special storage of both large and smaller items.

Security lockers are very durable, and they are virtually impossible to break into.  They are not assembled with nuts, bolts, or screws.  Instead, they are welded so that the sides and the front pieces form one contiguous surface.  Channel stiffeners further reinforce the front corner interiors of the units to keep them from being pried open.

Security lockers are further strengthened and reinforced by heavy duty three point turn handle locking mechanisms on their door handles.  Doors are designed with built in combination locks, or they can be ordered to be used with department or division issued padlocks.  Combination locks will be keyed to a master key that supervisors or commanding officers can use to access the locker if protocol calls for this.

This design is far superior to that of knockdown lockers that are assembled from separate sheets of metal and held together with nuts, bolts, and screws.

Security lockers are every bit as utilitarian as they are vandal resistant.  Each locker comes with a single adjustable shelf, but additional shelves are commonly ordered so that custom storage arrangements can be made for different needs.  The ability to move shelves up or down makes these units ideal for soldiers, police officers, and officers on SWAT teams who often have to store multiple weapons, protective gear, uniforms, and special equipment in an organized manner.

Security lockers are not just used in the military and in police departments.  They are also very popular in many schools.  In places where there is a high risk of vandalism or theft, corrosion resistant metal lockers are the way to go.  Football teams, basketball teams, basketball teams, lacrosse teams, and tennis players can all adapt these units to their particular needs.  Track and field departments can also store specific gear used for different track and field events without concern of it being lost or stolen.

Security lockers come in either a solid design or a perforated, ventilated design.  Ventilated units are recommended when sweaty or wet clothing will be stored in the unit.  However, in situations where sensitive equipment or even documents are going to be stored, privacy concerns may prohibit a view into the locker’s interior.  For these situations, a solid metal design is recommended.

Metal Open Access Children’s Primary Junior Cubbies

August 1st, 2011 by

If you are a teacher or school principle looking for ways to cultivate personal responsibility and behavior self management in your younger students, then you need metal open access children’s primary junior cubbies.  These personal storage devices can work wonders for teachers who are always having to struggle with the challenges of distraction and misplaced supplies.

Metal open access children’s primary junior cubbies feature a very basic design that is ideal for very small students.  A single vertical space measuring 24 inches in height, with no shelves, gives children ample room to store their lunch boxes, backpacks, and school supplies.  You can actually use the lack of shelving to teach students to neatly stack and organize materials without the support of specialized storage compartments.  Students can compete for little rewards on who has the neatest arrangement of materials, and who can find his or her materials quicker and more easily than others.

This helps you greatly when it comes to keeping your class on task.  If students bring everything from home to their primary work area, they will find ways to play with virtually everything they have brought to school.  Children have an uncanny ability to make toys out of anything, and this works against your efforts to keep them focuses.  However, when the bulk of what a student needs is organized and stored in a metal access children’s primary junior cubby, then the student has only the tools necessary for learning .  This goes a long way toward minimizing distraction.

If you teach art or music, you can use metal open access children’s primary junior cubbies to store special supplies.  Art teachers can often store all the paint, paper, canvases, brushes, and pencils in these compartments and have them all ready for students to retrieve and use when they come in to the classroom.  This helps students become aware of the need to take care of public property as well as their own personal property because they must put the supplies back where they found them.  Music teachers have also found that metal open access children’s primary junior cubbies are ideal places to store music books and smaller musical instruments.

Metal open access children’s primary junior cubbies are customizable to specific sizes of classrooms because they can be ordered with only one vertical storage compartment, or designed with two or three adjacent compartments.  This allows schools to give every student in the class just the right amount of storage space.

Hockey Lockers

May 17th, 2011 by

Wooden, open-access hockey lockers give hockey players of all ages plenty of room to store every piece of equipment. Players can neatly hang up their uniforms in a space open to the air that keeps them dry. There is also more than enough room to store protective gear and the player’s hockey stick.

The locker features five specific storage sections that allow the player to organize everything at his fingertips.

The top of the locker is actually a shelf where the player can store his helmet. This is very convenient, because after he finishes suiting up, all he has to do is reach up, grab the helmet, and strap it on. He can also store extra skates here, or even a few pucks for solo practice on the ice.

Underneath this shelf, the hockey locker has a security box on the left and a cubby storage area of approximately the same size on the right. The security box locks so the player can protect personal valuables while he is out on the ice. The cubby storage compartment is useful for storing smaller pieces of gear like mouth guards, gloves, and neck guards.

The premier feature of the stadium style hockey locker, however, is its large middle storage area. This section is built much like a closet, only without a door. It has a coat hook on the left and a coat rod that spans the top of the unit. This coat rod is long enough and sturdy enough to hang up jerseys, padded shorts or Breezers, and even should pads. The player can store elbow pads, knee pads, and leg guards against the back wall of the middle section and lean the stick in the corner.

Hockey lockers also come with a built in foot locker located below the open middle storage area. This foot locker unit has a unique feature that is particularly convenient for hockey players. It not only provides more than enough room for socks and skates, but it also is angled in the front in a manner that lets the player turn around and use it as a small bench when he laces on his skates.

While it is true that pro hockey players have fully furnished locker rooms with player’s benches, we have to remember that there are all sorts of community hockey leagues and little league hockey organizations that may not have the money to build large, fully furnished locker rooms. For these organizations on limited budgets, or those that face room size limitations, hockey lockers with a built in player’s bench are a great way to save money on building costs and still meet the needs of players of any age group or level of skill.

Changing Room Lockers

October 17th, 2010 by
Share

You can use changing room lockers as key elements of your interior design. They are made out of high-quality, industrial grade particleboard that is coated and protected by a tough plastic laminate. You can purchase them in single tier, double tier, and extra wide configurations.

Because changing room lockers come in a many different sizes, you have to think about several things before you decide on what to purchase.

The first of thing to consider is the actual amount of room space that you can devote to locker storage. You can determine this by measuring the wall and island space where the lockers will be installed. You can also send blueprints of the facility to XPB Locker for us to take a look at.

The second thing to consider is how many actual locker units you are going to need. You should always overestimate a bit because during times of peak activity you will have more guests or clients than you would normally see or even anticipate. It is never good for your organization to have to turn people away because you do not have enough lockers for everyone to use.

You should also base changing room locker size on the storage requirements of the individual end users and partly, too, on the part of the country in which you are located. If you are in the north, where it gets very cold in the winter, people will need room for heavy coat storage. You may not have this need if you are located far enough south for people to not have to wear so much protective clothing in the winter.

If you have clients who bring large back packs to the grounds, or that have to store very large gym backs or golf bags, you will probably need extra wide lockers.

You can request that your changing room lockers be fitted with any number of standard lock types. However, we recommend that you order them with the thru-bolted padlock clasp. This kind of lock is extra secure because the hasp passes all the way through the door and fits into the side of the locker. It is very difficult to break into a locker with this type of bolt secured even further with a padlock.

Because your changing room lockers arrive on location preassembled, you will not need to contract special labor to install them. Your maintenance crew can easily handle putting them up. If you are designing or overseeing a new construction, you can subcontract any number of installers to have the lockers ready for use on opening day.

Plastic and Metal Employee Lockers

October 12th, 2010 by
Share

Plastic and metal employee lockers give you many ergonomic option, design features, and color to choose from. This makes it possible for you to customize your environment with the locker of your choice that also meets your needs ideally on a functional level..

Our clients have been businesses and organizations from every spectrum of society.

  • Police and fire departments have bought our lockers to use for uniform storage.
  • Maintenance and repair businesses use our plastic and metal employee lockers for equipment storage and to store protective clothing.
  • Office workers love our box metal lockers for storing personal items, valuables, and even lunch boxes. The offices love them too because each employee has his or her own personal locker to be responsible for and places less demands on the public space of the break room (and the company) for personal storage and potential loss of personal property.

Most organizations initially don’t know if they need to buy plastic or metal employee lockers because they are unclear about the specific benefits offered by both materials. A little clarity on this matter goes a long way to making the right decision.

First, realize metal will never become obsolete. At the same time, plastic is becoming more and more popular because of its longevity, durability, and minimal requirements for maintenance. Put plastic out in the woods, for instance, and it will last a 1000 years after all our major cities have crumbled.

Plastic is therefore the most economical choice for companies who want to avoid having to replace lockers that rust out.

It is also made to be resistant to scratching, denting, and paint chipping, so you don’t have to maintain it as much.

Case studies have shown it do very well in recreational facilities and high humidity environments.

Plastic lockers are not affected by water, salt air, or even chlorine, so it is ideal for public swimming pools, gymnasiums, and public sea parks where you watch the dolphins and the sea lions.

Even so, nothing will ever metal for its ability to constantly circulate air and keep locker contents dry and sanitary.

While durability may be the domain of plastic, metal employee lockers are vented to keep air constantly flowing through their interiors. When you need to store clothing, uniforms, shoes, and special protective coverings that cannot afford to lay in the locker hot and sweaty, metal will keep them dry every time.

Athletic Gym Lockers

September 18th, 2010 by
Share

Athletic gym lockers with vented doors allow free circulation of air to dry out these fabrics.

Vented wire mesh lockers are less expensive than all welded metal models and plastic models with vented doors. They are ideal for schools, private club locker rooms, fitness organizations, and workspace storage needs. There are six basic model designs you can choose from.

  1. Single tier lockers have one vertical compartment that can hold clothing and athletic equipment like hockey sticks or baseball bats.
  2. Double tier lockers have a divided vertical compartment, and each division is as an individual locker space.
  3. Six tier box style have box-like locker spaces and are the most commonly found locker model in middle and high school general P.E dressing rooms.
  4. Extra wide single and double tiered models are 25 percent wider than their standard counterparts.
  5. Extra wide triple tier lockers are 25 percent larger than six tier box tier counterparts.

Athletic gym lockers can be customized with sloping hoods, end bases, front bases, locks, nameplates, and fillers for all model corner, tops, and vertical sections. (Fillers are needed when you install a row of lockers over obstructions like pipes and columns.)

To give your lockers a finished and professional appearance, you can invest in sloping hoods, end bases and front bases. This also keeps the locker environment cleaner and healthier.

Each of the six different models of athletic gym lockers offers you several different options as to how you lock the locker. The first is the simple latch option we have all seen and probably used at some point in our upbringing. The latch supports a hanging combination lock that the student brings from home.

The latch option is less expensive, but if the student forgets his or her combination, then you have to cut the lock off. Worse yet, some students are only pretending to forget their combination and are hiding things in their locker that you cannot access without damaging the lock.

If you are looking for something that gives you more access to lockers when legal need exists, then you need a built-in lock. Our athletic gym lockers can be fitted with either a built-in combo lock or a built-in key lock mechanism.

Cubby Lockers

August 24th, 2010 by
Share

What are cubby lockers?

They are storage lockers made from solid plastic. They are designed in a grid configuration that makes smaller storage spaces, or “cubbies”, that you can use to store practically anything. We can create any number of grid combinations you like to make the locker customized to your particular storage needs.

Examples of applications we have serviced in the past include the following:

  • Museums that use them for open display storage.
  • YMCA’s that use them for supply storage.
  • Elementary schools use them for storing classroom supplies.
  • Wineries can store wine bottles in them.

Cubby lockers can be built in several different styles. The most popular is the free standing model that sits vertically against the wall. In compliance with ADA application rules, each unit must be raised off the floor. You can either purchase an optional 4 inch base, or you can pour a concrete base to hold the unit up.

Finishing panels can be mounted on the locker to make the sides and the tops of cubbies appear a contiguous whole rather than a series of panels. You can also get corner assembly models that need only one side panel; and you can choose a recessed model that installs directly into a wall niche.

Cubby lockers have a number of features that any business type can find useful. They are made out of tough, solid plastic that never needs painting, resists dents and scratches.

  • They are impervious to moisture and resistant to bacterial buildup
  • They are made from either 30% pre-consumer recycled HDPE plastic or 100% recycled plastic
  • They are vandal resistant
  • They come with a 20 year warranty against rust, delamination or breakage under normal use
  • They ship fully assembled

Both the 30 percent and 100 percent cubbies can qualify a business for points in the LEEDS Green Building Program. This program gives your business points and tax benefits for conservation at different levels, depending on different areas of participation.

Our Factory Engineer CAD will every customer cubby locker configuration to your personal specifications, edit, and final approval before production. Every cubby is made to spec in this way and takes 4 weeks to make.

You can clean these lockers with a soft wet cloth. Noticeable grease, dirt, and grime that may get on the surface can be removed with a Simple Green or DoAll cleaning solution and a cloth or soft-bristle brush.

If your locker is vandalized with graffiti, you can take it off with any industrial Graffiti Remover that is safe to use on a plastic surface.
