Shower Partitions

May 26th, 2012 by
Share

Shower partitions are installed around wall shower assemblies or individual shower heads.  We recommend that they be floor mounted and overhead braced. The same layouts used in toilet stall design can also be used when creating shower stalls.  Architects, contractors, and facility managers can build showers in corners, alcoves, free standing, or between walls.  To save our clients time, we offer consultative design assistance upon request, and we include free design drawings with quotes.

Solid Plastic Shower Dividers are made from Bradley Bradmar® HDPE.  HDPE stands for High Density Polyethylene. It is made by compressing various resins into a contiguous piece of one-inch, non-absorbent, self-lubricating colored plastic.  The material bears the color within itself and never requires repainting.  It resists graphite and ink, and it is very difficult to scratch.  Bradmar® HDPE solid plastic has exhibited exceptional performance in wet areas, which makes it ideal for individual shower stalls.

The standard size for HDPE toilet partitions has always been 55 inches high.  We have found that this is not exactly ideal for shower stall construction because it leaves a 12 inch gap beneath the panel and door. Because of this, we have taken to custom ordering shower partitions in 72 inch heights.  Panels and doors go down to the floor now.  We also have adjustable hinges for shower doors so that they will close flush to the panel without leaving a bothersome site line.

Inside our shower stalls, contractors can install any number of Bradley individual shower units. Because we work with organizations that do both reconstructions and new constructions, we include a full line of wall mounted and recessed mounted units that are adaptable to any interior environment.  Our shower enclosures have been installed in public locker rooms in recreational swimming facilities, community civic center recreational locker rooms, gyms, spas, and factory restrooms where workers are exposed to hazardous materials and must shower before going home.

Shower partitions can also be fully accessorized with coat hooks, towel hooks, towel racks, soap dishes, etc. This makes it possible to build something very private and personal for the employee or the guest who must shower before leaving the property.  While it is admittedly more expensive to build stalls rather than install group showers, costs can be trimmed by replacing doors with shower curtains.  Privacy can still be maintained in this way, but construction costs are considerably lowered as a result.

Solid Plastic Shower Dividers

May 25th, 2012 by

What material do you recommend shower stalls be manufactured from?

We recommend Bradley Bradmar solid plastic as the preferred material for pilasters, partition panels, and doors (if applicable).  The reason for this is simple.  Solid plastic shower dividers are every bit as moisture resistant as stainless steel, but they require less specialized care.  They are actually much harder to deface than stainless steel, and much less expensive and easier to repair in the event that they are damaged.  Another key feature is contiguous color that runs throughout the plastic, eliminating the need for painting or repainting at any time.

What mounting configuration do you recommend?

We recommend installing your solid plastic shower dividers in a floor mounted overhead braced configuration.  This creates maximum stability and privacy for shower users.  Pilaster feet are stainless steel.  You can choose upgrade to all aluminum or all stainless steel partition hardware depending on the design requirements of your particular bathroom, shower room, or locker room.

Do you have individual showers for remodels?

Yes.  You can install Adapt-Brad individual renovation showers inside your shower stalls if you are doing a commercial restroom remodel.  We also carry a full line of individual wall mounted and corner mounted showers that can be installed in any new construction and many remodels as well.  Call to see which shower assembly will work best with your particular user requirements.  ADA models are available as well.

What layouts can solid plastic shower dividers be installed in?

Basically you can install them in any layout you normally would install toilet partitions.  Pilasters and panels can be configured for corners, alcoves, wall-to-wall, or they can be installed free standing.  If you want to save time deciding which layout is best, or whether you may need multiple layouts, ask XPB Locker to include a free design drawing with your quote.  We need simply a floor plan of your facility faxed or emailed to us to provide you with this convenient, time-saving courtesy.

What level of privacy can users expect from your solid plastic shower dividers?

Our shower stalls offer optimal privacy because panels and doors can be ordered in 72 inch heights.  This offers a far more protected enclosure than the industry standard height of 55 inches, which leaves a 12 inch gap under the stall.  You can enclose the front of the stall with an optional shower curtain (to save on installation costs), or a solid plastic door that closes against the panel with a zero site line into the interior.  If privacy is a major consideration in your facility, we strongly recommend you build your shower stalls with doors.

Trough Sinks

May 23rd, 2012 by
Share

Trough sinks feature a deep, linear wash basin (hence the term “trough”) and multiple stations designed to accommodate several users at a time. The location of each user station is determined by the position of each faucet without the need for separating partitions.  Different sizes, material builds, and lavatory designs allow industries of any kind to make the maximum use of limited space to service as many persons at a time as is feasible, hygienic, and safe.

In addition to multiuser convenience, architects, contractors, and facility managers often choose trough sinks because they are remarkably efficient at saving water. Dividing a single water source into multiple stations is far more cost effective than linking each individual station to its own separate water supply.  Various water metering controls are built into a number of our models that further regulate the flow of water and shut off the water after a set number of seconds to prevent vandals from leaving the faucets on indefinitely.

Many different types of facilities and industries find that the best blend of functionality and aesthetics can be found in either the Verge line of products or the Express line of products. Both product lines are characterized by unique, and highly attractive, material builds.  These materials feature a hygienic quality that is on par with that of traditional stainless steel.  They also feature, however, additional advantages over stainless steel.  They offer a full range of color choices, and they are highly resistant to damage and vandalism.  Even if damaged, they are easy and cost effective to repair.

Airports, civic centers, museums, schools, libraries, and a host of commercial office centers have enjoyed great success with this new generation of trough sinks that not only function at an exceptional level of performance, but also compliment the gamut of interior decors ranging from the traditional to the formal to the ultra contemporary.

Utilitarian facilities where practicality takes priority over image often prefer to stick with traditional stainless steel trough sinks. Many sports arenas and facilities that host any number of outdoor gatherings will have restrooms that are designed to service as many people as possible at the same time.  Island sinks are best for restrooms with limited wall space and plenty of floor space in which to install a central hand washing station.  Wall mounted multiuser sinks are designed for the same purpose, but work better in narrower restrooms where there is more wall space than floor space.

Coin Operated Lockers

May 22nd, 2012 by
Share

Do coin operated lockers really help regulate locker usage?

Yes.  Many facilities like bus terminals, airports, and some shopping malls can be accessed by the public 24/7.  Since anyone can enter the building whether they are a legitimate patron of the establishment or not, anyone off the street could claim a locker as his or her own simply by securing it with a personal padlock or combination lock.  Such a person could then leave their belongings in the unit indefinitely, effectively shutting it off from use by legitimate patrons.

Making people pay to use the locker incentivizes people, to some degree, not to abuse it.  However, a couple of quarters can be obtained by anyone who wants to walk in off the street and borrow a locker.  If this is a concern, your organization can issue tokens to customers or members.  This would allow management to monitor who, in a large and constantly shifting crowd of people, is using locker space.

What would prevent someone from storing contraband or weapons in a coin operated locker?

Nothing prevents a criminal from committing a crime.  That’s why a criminal is called a criminal.  However, nothing works better on a criminal than setting them up to get caught.  There are a number of locker door designs that allow law enforcement and management to see the interior of a locked unit.  There are also many surveillance technologies that can monitor the activities of locker usage through live video feeds or taped recordings.

Probably the best way to ensure legal, legitimate use of locker space is to utilize a combination of issued tokens, sign-in sheets, and surveillance.  You also need to let guests who are using the units know that they have only a limited amount of time to do so.  Personal items stored beyond a certain point can be legally removed by management provided you make guests aware of the policy and have them sign an agreement to abide by it prior to using the locker.

Are coin operated lockers good for public swimming pools?
Yes.  Public swimming pools are often free to the public and depend on city funding to stay open.  The money accumulated through paid locker can actually help pay for a portion of the operating costs of the pool.  Believe it or not, the money adds up quick when you have a facility that large numbers of people visit throughout the week.

Wall Lockers

May 19th, 2012 by
Share

Wall lockers are constructed of 16 gauge steel that offers plenty of security in high traffic and sensitive environment. Color options of gray, tan, and blue allow contractors, architects, and facility managers to match their locker assemblies to surrounding room architecture or interior décor.

Box lockers only measure 12 inches in height by 12 inches in length by 12 inches in depth.  Each locker unit comes with four such compartments. This compact assembly also includes a coat rod attached to the underside of each unit.  The coat rod is capable of hanging clothes on a total of 16 rods without wrinkling.  Because lockers can be mounted anywhere on the wall, it is possible to place the unit high enough that clothes are kept off the floor with plenty of room for cleaning crews to work if necessary.

Some organizations, however, do not need a place to hang clothing.  Either they have private closets, standard coat racks, or simply have no need for people to change into another set of clothes. Many offices, for example, only need storage compartments to lock up office supplies, or to give employees a place to store their personal valuables.

These organizations have the option of ordering wall lockers without the attached coat rod.    When configured in this way, as only a horizontal row of compartments, a locker unit can be mounted on a table, workbench, or countertop and secured to the wall in the back. Examples of organizations that prefer this include offices, banks, and retail stores that do not require employees to wear uniforms.

Security is always a priority when investing in personal storage options.  Wall box style lockers speak to this need with a built-in padlock hasp for organizations that prefer to use keyed padlocks to secure stored items. However, clients also have the option of ordering lockers that have built in combination locks, or combination keyed locks.

Box lockers are well ventilated, with a visible interior that can be seen from the outside. Organizations may find that this gives them an added value of security because it discourages employees from storing anything in their lockers that should not be brought to work.

If security is not an issue, another type of wall locker that may interest your organization is the solid plastic cubby locker. These open style units are moisture and vandal resistant and can be configured vertically to stand in the wall of one corner of the room.

What Features do Solid Plastic Lockers Offer That Make Them the Best Swimming Pool Lockers?

May 18th, 2012 by
Share

Solid plastic is 100% water resistant.  Water will bead on its surface without penetrating into the material. This facilitates rapid evaporation that helps keep the unit clean.  Water resistance also makes solid plastic lockers very vandal resistant to graffiti.  Marker ink, pen ink, and graphite can be cleaned from its non-absorbent surface.  This makes solid plastic the ideal choice for dressing rooms located near school and/or public pools.

Solid plastic is also more durable for two reasons.  To begin with, it features a contiguous color that runs throughout the mold of the plastic.  No painting is ever required. The surface is also much harder to dent, scratch, or cut into than wood or metal.  If the surface is damaged by deliberate vandalism, solid plastic’s contiguous color hides damages much better than painted surfaces.  Repairing a damaged plastic locker is also much less expensive than trying to repair a wood or metal equivalent.

XPB solid plastic lockers can also be customized to the type of facility, to the age of the users, and to the number of users. For example, a natatorium dedicated only to giving small children swimming lessons can install six-tiered swimming pool lockers that will provide more than enough room for children to store clothing and personal items.  Larger facilities with more adult users can invest in very wide, single-tiered lockers for maximum clothing storage and personal item storage.

Lockers can be installed in either freestanding rows in schools, colleges, public gyms, and civic center locker rooms. Lockers can also be installed recessed along the wall.  Many country clubs, private health clubs, and spas prefer this design because it offers a more aesthetic compliment to interior architecture, decorative athletic benches, interior decorating, and room furnishings.  Various color options allow contractors, architects, or facility managers to choose the best possible compliment to their dressing room interior.

Swimming pool lockers can be highly customized and even personalized with individual name plates.  Security options that you can choose from include, but are not limited to, key locks, digital keypad locks, and coin-return locks. Many units can be further customized by various door options, side panel options, and top options.  Be sure to read our article for more details, and please take the time to look at each of our quick ship options in single tier, two-tier, triple-tier, and six-tier configurations.  Be aware too, please, that the degree of customization may depend on the tier configuration you choose.  Ask XPB Locker Supply if you have any questions.

Choosing the Right Commercial Handwash Sink

May 17th, 2012 by
Share

Do you have commercial handwash sinks that can handle two, or even three, users?

Yes.  Multi-user stations are available in a number of lines we carry.  Examples include the Bradley Verge Lavatory Station, the Frequency Lavatory System ®, and the Express® Lavatory System.  These stations feature ergonomic designs that are aesthetically complimentary to a number of restroom interiors, including high-end restrooms in hotels, sports arenas, casinos, museums, and large corporate buildings.

They also feature a wide range of customization options that allow facility managers and contractors to configure them with a variety of activation controls, including touch-free activation. These multi-station lavatory systems are ideal for providing light to moderate hand-washing in restrooms that witness consistently high traffic throughout the day.

Do you have commercial handwash sinks and commercial handwash fountains that meet both ADA and TAS compliance?

Yes.  Many of the lines mentioned above can be configured for wheelchair accessibility.  Additionally, we have a number of wash fountains that can equally accommodate persons with disabilities in restrooms that either see exceptionally high traffic in tight quarters and/or require a heavy-duty hand-washing system for heavily soiled hands and forearms.

Examples include, but are not limited to, lavatory systems such as the Express Crescent and various Frequency models..

What is the most vandal resistant material for commercial handwash sinks and commercial handwash fountains?

We have found that Terreon® offers an exceptional level of resistance to deliberate damage combined with a cost-effective ease of repair in the event that it is damaged.  Unlike stainless steel, which costs a small fortune sometimes to repair when it is deeply scratched, Terreon® can be repaired with a simple kit that you can buy from XPB Locker Supply.

We also have systems made from special commercial quartz that features a superior look and performance to many traditional materials.

How do you know if you need a lavatory or a wash fountain?

If your users are working in an industrial environment that requires washing grease, chemicals, soil, or other contaminates off of both hands and forearms, you should consider one of our wash fountains.  In some settings too, such as high-traffic school restrooms, you can benefit from installing wash fountains for student use.

There is no hard fast rule that says you have to use lavatories instead of fountains.  However, most facilities prefer to substitute fountains for lavatories only when high-traffic is anticipated in small restrooms that lack the wall space to accommodate a sufficient number of lavatories.

Medium traffic restrooms that are small in size can best be accommodated aesthetically either by corner or wall-mounted wash fountains or commercial handwash sinks with multiple stations.

Measuring Restroom Stall Dimensions for School Bathrooms

May 16th, 2012 by
Share

In the corresponding article on measuring restroom stall dimensions for school bathrooms, we talked about the specific requirements that guide the determination of pilaster lengths, panel placement, and door locations. In this blog, we will take a closer look at another set of requirements: building school restroom stalls that meet ADA accessibility requirements.

It is almost inconceivable that a school restroom could be built these days without providing special accommodation for disabled students. What this means in practical terms is very simple.  Even in the oldest of school buildings seeking only a basic and cost effective remodel, special accommodations are going to have to be built into the new layout to meet with compliance codes that are not only ADA mandated, but also, in many cases, mandated by states and local governments.

XPB Locker Supply stands ready to assist contractors facing the many challenges that often confront them when measuring restroom stall dimensions for school bathrooms under remodel.  We are fully aware of the many codes that clients throughout the nation face, and we have the ability to not only assist in determining the necessary size of a handicapped restroom stall, but also customize toilet partition hardware to build the stall to code.

Several basic measurements are unique to these stalls.  Unlike the standard dimension of 48”, ADA compliant stalls must measure 60 inches from panel to panel. Grab bars for wheelchair access to and from the toilet must be mounted to the side panel, or the wall, nearest to the toilet.  The toilet itself must be offset on the back wall so that its centerline measures 18 inches from the closest wall or partition panel.   Stall depth is either 56 inches for wall mounted toilets or 59 inches for floor mounted toilets.

While these dimensions are basic, and very easy to remember, things can quickly become more complicated when there are more than just a few stalls. Codes require that school bathrooms with six or more toilets and/or urinals be designed with ambulatory stalls for wheelchair access.  In renovations or new constructions with varying wall treatments, slightly uneven floors, unusual floor constitutions, or unusual ceiling heights, space management concerns may cause unacceptable time delays in what should be a simple process of measuring restroom stall dimensions and ordering hardware to build the required assembly.

Don’t let such a challenge consume your valuable time and cost you money.  Call XPB Locker Supply and give us all the specifications on the room in which you are working, and all the specified requirements you are expected to fulfill. Let us help you not only design the best possible configuration, but also work with the factory to make certain you receive all the necessary hardware you need to meet your project deadlines without running over budget.

Vandal Resistant Restroom Partitions for School Renovation

May 12th, 2012 by
Share

Bradmar® Solid plastic, vandal resistant restroom partitions can be mounted in a number of styles and configurations for school renovations in high risk districts or high traffic campuses. XPB Locker offers consultative guidance on choosing the most affordable, and the most effective, mounting style for your school restroom remodeling project.  We also help you determine the appropriate measurements for each toilet stall, help you configure the stalls for ADA accessibility, and customize the stall for special interior designs and privacy concerns.

Overhead braced mounting is often the best style to use in school renovations that are implemented to meet the high traffic demands of an exploding student population. This style offers the advantage of easy installation without any special floor or ceiling construction requirements.  It is often the most cost effective route to take in a school restroom remodel.  Toilet partitions will be fitted with anti-grip headrails that generate consistent rigidity.

The floor to ceiling mounting style offers the highest level of stability for vandal resistant restroom partitions. This style does require certain floor and ceiling construction requirements to secure the two ends of the pilasters firmly in place.  Call us if you have any questions about how this style can be applied to your school renovation project at a cost within your allocated budget.

No Site™ configuration removes the gap between the panel and the door which otherwise can be as wide as ½”.  This creates a completely enclosed, personal private stall space for the user.

Stalls can be fitted with door latches to indicate that the stall is in use.  In addition to this, toilet partitions configured for No Site™ privacy can be mounted floor-to-ceiling or floor-mounted with overhead braced.

*** A complete enclosure like this may not be advisable for certain high risk campuses.  In the event that this applies to your campus, we can customize stall doors so security guards can have emergency access to the stalls from the outside.

Vandal resistant restroom partitions can also be customized for full accessibility access per ADA and other state and local regulatory codes. Call us for a complete listing of component toilet stall hardware parts and partition accessories needed to build toilet stalls for disability access.

Whatever school renovation constraints you may be faced with, XPB Locker Supply can help you with this project. We have decades of combined experience in designing school bathroom layouts, bathroom partition measurements, and bathroom stall accessorization for individual user convenience and low maintenance cleaning.

We Help Design Toilet Stalls for Any Partition Layout

May 11th, 2012 by
Share

When you call XPB Locker supply for a toilet partition quote, we do much more for you than simply give you a list of materials, colors, and accessories with corresponding prices. We know from real world experience that anyone with hours so spend can do their own line-item analysis of a manufacturer’s catalogue and choose the components needed to build toilet stalls for any partition layout.  We also know that facility managers, architects, and contractors do not have the time to do exhaustive research on all of the options they have to choose from.

That’s where our team will step in to help you to whatever extent you need our assistance. We provide an interactive, consultative, and bundled design process, along with a free drawing, for every toilet partition quote we publish to serious inquirers.

This process begins by helping you determine the best materials to use in building bathroom stalls. Before we start talking about measurements, mounting options, and line item customization, we have to make certain that the material you choose for your panels, doors, and pilasters is the best possible match for the environmental stress factors that will be placed upon it.

There are a number of variables that include wear and tear from traffic, possible vandalism, and sanitation requirements come into play in choosing the best material to use in building the toilet stalls for your specific partition layout requirements.

Next, we help you configure your commercial restroom stalls.  This service is of particular value to contractors responsible for remodeling existing restrooms with challenging floor plans. Our team has advanced training and decades of experience in calculating the optimal measurements for alcove, in-corner alcove, free standing, between wall, and open-end configuration.  Once these measurements are mapped out, determining how best to mount the pilasters normally falls into place.  When certain environments present a challenge to standard installation, our team will work with you to adapt your mounting hardware to the mitigating factors at hand.

We will also accessorize and customize the toilet stalls for your partition layout to the degree that your project manager, general contractor, or client company requires. We have hundreds of options that can reinforce mounts, customize doors for unique interior designs, create no-site privacy stalls, and accommodate special accessibility requirements.

We include a free design drawing with every toilet partition quote and a list of recommended industrial restroom fixtures and washroom accessory choices to streamline your procurement for the entire project.
